Is a 27 on the ACT adequate for these schools: Boston University, Syracuse, UMass Amherst, George Washington U, American University, and Dickinson College?

Aside from this test score I have excellent grades, ec's, and a great essay.

It may be for BU and UMass…I would retake it, because I think its definitely not terrible for your colleges, but it might be the lower 50%. So if everything else is great, then don’t sweat it too much but I would recommend taking it once more just to see.

28 (with the written part) is the 75th percentile for Syracuse, I believe.

The answer is at ■■■■■■■■■■

what does 25-75 percentile mean?

If you took the entire spectrum of scores, the range they present are the ones from the 25th percentile to the 75th percentile. So, there would be 25% of kids who scored lower and 25% who scored higher.

My son raised his ACT from a 31 to a 34 with zero studying, so take it again. A 28 or 29 would be better than a 27 (obviously).

I don’t think a 27 is good enough for BU anymore. That school is getting very tough to get into, because everyone wants to go to school in Boston.
