A 32

I feel really dumb for posting this, just to start off. I am a sophomore and took the ACT partly because of CC and partly because of my english teacher. I got a 32 composoite and an 11 on the essay. I know its in the 99 percentile but whenever I look on here, everyone is screaming: OMG!! I GOT A 35!! SHOULD I RETAKE TO TRY AND GET A 37!?!?(I know the highest is 36, btw). So my score is actually a good one right? And will it get my foot in the door at some of the higher colleges?(not the ivies). Thanks in advance.

If you got a 32, and on top of that you stated you know it’s in the 99 percentile, why would you ask if the score is “actually a good one”.

Obviously it is.

32 is sometimes sufficient for the Ivies. So, yes, it will get your foot in the door at other higher colleges.

Considering you’re a sophomore, I think it’d be a good idea to take it another 2-3 times. It wouldn’t hurt, and you definitely have the opportunity to improve your score.

Remember, though, that the ACT isn’t the be all and end all. I recently read of someone that couldn’t get higher than a 25 on their ACT, but due to being a well-rounded student, he got accepted into Duke.

Please don’t take it “2-3” more times-it’s seriously not worth it. If you’re really unhappy with the 32, retake it once in your junior year-your score will probably go up, and you’ll be fine. Honestly, though, a 32 is a solid ACT score.

Edit: I just realized you’re in MT-a 32 is a good score especially since you’re in Montana (that is, if you’re applying to schools that aren’t in “your” area).

Ok, thanks for the responses. Just wondering, what would qualify as “my” area for schools?

^^^States near Montana (mostly the northwestern/some midwestern states).

If I were you, I’d take it two more times (Junior and Senior years). Besides, you can always pick which score to send to colleges.

Don’t worry about ppl here who are crying because they “only” got a 35. They’re either bragging or lying.

Congrats! I also received a score similar to yours as a Sophomore (31).

A 32 is a great score that most seniors will kill for. Take it once or twice more if you want to or think you can get a better score; it’s not necessary.

PS- There’s no need to worry about college admissions anymore if you got a 32 this early in high school.

oohhhh..i’m a sophomore and i got a 32 too!! i was actually thinking the same thing as you, whether i should take it again or not..and i am my junior yr..

32 is a wonderful score. But, if you are considering any school that offers merit money, higher is always better than lower. With score choice, it definitely behooves you to take it again, and possibly again. For example, the 32 puts you in the running for a $24k annual scholarship at Miami. A 34 would put you in the running for a full tuition scholarship. Even tho you might not consider Miami, you can easily see what a higher test score can do ($$) for merit scholarships.
