A "4" on the AP world history exam: useful?

To me, the official Fordham information seems really vague about how it the univeristy handles AP credit.

"Currently, a grade of 3 will be accepted as elective credit and grades of 4 or 5 may be applied towards the core curriculum. Official scores must be sent to the university in order for credit to be applied. Students who are awarded AP credit are notified during the late summer prior to the fall of freshman year."

Anyone know what they'll give you for a score of 4 on AP World History?

Thanks!

Got it - found it in the 06-08 bulletin by googling specifying site:fordham.edu

4 on AP Euro or 4 on AP US is good for 3 core credits; 4 on AP World is worth 3 elective credits. Useful but not as useful as if it were Euro or US. C'est la vie.

There is another angle to consider here. It depends on your agenda, magor, and what you want out of college life. I suppose if you are a business major or communications or something, that getting "rid of core requirements" in liberal arts is a useful objective. But also consider whether you will miss something important. The core requirements are not mundane and designed to be a roadblock to your success. They are in fact excellent courses designed to enlighten you, regardless of major, in the old fashioned way...that college is not a technical school, but a place of higher learning in many areas. I applaud Fordham for continuing their core requirements. I have advised my D that she ought to think long and hard before taking any AP credit as a substitute for any core class, because she might be missing some great classes, a terrific learning environment, meeting new friends, and a superb introduction to a Fordham education. In our family, she took her numerous AP courses because they were the highest level of instruction in her high school and she liked being challenged, and to work towards a better chance at admission. But it was not a substitute for college work. That does not mean she wont utilize the opportunity to forego a lower level class, to give her a jump start on a liberal arts major...so that she can take more classes at higher levels in her major....there are so many offerings and they all look so wonderful...which ones do you pick and which ones do you forego?

So dont be disapppointed if World History is a waiver for a core class. Embrace the core and enjoy!

Hi all, I just have a question about the scores that Fordham accepts. If I get a 4 or 5 on the AP literature and Composition test and a 4 or a 5 on the AP world History test, will i get 3 credits for a core class or for an elective class?

Thanks in advance :)

“Advanced Placement (AP) Exams: Credit awarded for AP exams varies depending on the exam taken and the score earned. Generally though, Fordham College at Rose Hill requires an AP score of “3” to fulfill a non-major elective course and “4” or higher to fulfill a core course.”

There’s a huge list out there of classes that can be knocked out with APs…

I know I knocked out intro to politics with my AP Gov, but then I just took the class, anyway.
