I did early decision Rice, but the problem is that there are at least 10 people that also did the same thing at my school. Doesn't that really affect my chances of getting in? And even though I have stats that make me pretty competitive the other people applying still did a lot of other stuff that I didn't do through HS.

Depends on how Rice admissions "reads" applications. If the regional rep. reads by school applied from, and eliminates the "weakest" applicants from each particular high school when compared to one another, then you are initially competing against your own classmates.

It probably shouldn't affect your chances. I think 12 people applied from my high school when I did. I got in even though some people with "stronger" stats from my high school didn't. There are a lot of intangibles.

No one from my school has even heard of Rice, but it's not exactly the "brightest" school in the area. Is the rigor of a school considered to a great extent?

I'm sure my school had at least 20-30 people apply, and I can think of at least seven off the top of my head who were accepted, with a range of stats. I think you'll be fine.

Four students (including myself) from my high school applied to Rice and all four of us were accepted.

This is not as many as ten or twelve but it certainly shows that Rice doesn't take only one student per school (which was the rumor when I was applying!).

Last year quite a few people from my high school were accepted, but they were all pretty awesome. Ms. Villafranca (Rice Recruiter/adm. officer) told me Rice has no quotas for any area/high school, so 15 people from one school COULD get in, but of course they would all have to be Rice fits. Has it ever happened with that many people? No clue.
