My complaint about CC is this:
Why do some schools retain ALL their messages in the alphabetic forum and others are deleted after 30 days? It makes it appear as though very few people are interested in the majority of the schools, and (falsely in many instances) that there are LOTS and LOTS of people interested in the flagged schools. It just reinforces this silly division between the CC “preferred” schools and all the rest.
Could you let us know the schools that have “vanishing” posts? For your information, you could also use the “report an offensive post” feature from within the area where the problem seems to occur.
Trinity
Actually I had noticed the same vanishing posts too. Muhlenberg College.
I agree. I did a review of Juniata this year. Seems a shame that it’s gone in less then a year. Why not keep all that info up for a year?
I’d like to see all of the college listings given the same priority.
The board has different default settings for different boards, but for some reason, a lot of features are hidden. Typically, post date control on vBulletin for individual forums is available at the bottom of the page when visting a particular forum, but it’s oddly missing from this forum. For example, visit the UCSB board:
<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=127”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=127</a>
Normally, vBulletin forums have thread options at the bottom of that page, but this particular forum setup doesn’t. Now visit this link:
<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&f=127&page=1&pp=30&sort=lastpost&order=desc&daysprune=-1”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&f=127&page=1&pp=30&sort=lastpost&order=desc&daysprune=-1</a>
If you want all forums to display all posts ever made, go here:
<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/profile.php?do=editoptions”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/profile.php?do=editoptions</a>
Scroll down to Default Thread Age Cut Off
Select Show All Threads
Here’s another option that I found helpful that don’t show up on the board:
<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/register.php?do=requestemail”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/register.php?do=requestemail</a>
(Useful if you register but lose your registration code in your email. Typically, it appears on the header bar of vBulletin forums)
The Juniata visit is still showing:
<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=14236”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=14236</a>
I do not see a problem on Muhlenberg but I noticed the issue when changing to the forum default. Bringing back the “Show all threads” option showed all posts.
Please note that we host a community forum at <a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20</a>.
That is the place to post your complaints and suggestions and the technical staff DOES check the forum.
This thread will be copied to the appropriate forum and closed here.
For instance I was looking for information on Loyola College in Maryland. There is only one (fairly recent) post listed there. If you look at Kenyon, the posts go back to Dec 2004. I find it hard to believe that NO ONE has posted anything at Loyola in that time frame. This may be just an odd fluke for Kenyon though, as most of the other ones I’ve looked at also go back only 30 days. Oh well.
Oh OK - I just changed my settings and now I can see them all. Thank you very much!
