A Better Chance Program - Middle Grades

I would think that if you could visit that you should. Maybe let them know that you’re actually able to visit and perhaps you could even just check in with your AO.

Thank you

@SigmaJaRay I am the OP and am in CT. Feel free to PM me if you have questions about CT schools.

Thank you.

Anyone looking at Kimball Union Academy in New Hampshire?

ABC parent here. this waiting is killing me.

The time between applications being due and March 10th is always so difficult! We’re doing pretty well. My son interviewed at a CSP school just a few days ago, so keeping busy in the process really helps. I hope you hear something good soon!

yes I know the day school decisions in NY and MAYBE NJ come out tomorrow but all we applied to were boarding schools because our local school will be fine in the event of. We got a call from a coach last friday asking us to come interview so we will be hiking 2,5 hrs for it! Who knows what could happen. Do you know anything about the “tiers”? Not the “tears” i may have flowing on March 9…lol…the other

So close! Good luck to everyone and keep this thread going for future ABC candidates.

This board has seemed to have gone radio silent since the app deadline passed.

Thank you @Momto4kids ! and best of luck to you ll as well.

@harlemgirl121 That happens and then people will come back and post their results.

I am the OP and will post my experience again. We applied and learned a great from the ABC process. Although accepted to the ABC schools the FA when compared to the Non ABC School FA was not going to work. What I can say is that the ABC workshops and info prepared us for the private school application process in general so we included Non ABC Schools and it worked in our favor. D is very happy at her middle school. We might consider ABC for HS placement but will decide next year.

Thank you for sharing this again. I am new to this forum and also new to ABC.Do you feel as if going to an ABC school without disclosing that you are in th program would help with the FA? I only ask because my son and I went to some member schools that we weren’t referred to and applied without mentioning ABC. One of the schools even said that they dont give ABC students any more of a preferential treatment than a non ABC when it comes down to FA.

I also wonder if coaches that are interested in recruiting your child have any influence over the admissions officers. In the end, even if the AO that interviewed you chooses you, who has the last word?

There is a thread talking about that specifically. To be honest- there are MANY variables. Even if a coach calls (we have had calls from almost all the schools), you don’t know how much influence a coach has AND who your child is competing against. I have a college ball player and it resembles selective school (HYP) college recruiting. THE best package wins - SSAT, GPA, student’s skill level - the level of play in your area, family history in sports, HUDL highlights,… Some coaches don’t bother to call because the school has a ton of applicants and the academics are the first hurdle.

I would tend to agree - admissions and FA are 2 separate processes. ABC gets you noticed. FA is need & merit based.

do you guys think the BS talk to eachother and discuss applicants they may have in common

Nope. At least not until admissions season is over.

I would say it “depends.” You also have to include the ABC team as part of the discussion - TRUST ME if your child was less than ‘well behaved’ during ABC events, current students have shared with their admissions dept and the ABC rep has “advocated” accordingly. I have heard admissions reps talk openly about referring students away when it is in the child’s best interest. Mine has a very specific interest in science, during the SKYPE interview he was asked/informed of 2 schools/reps that covered that area. The reps travel together and during mass interviews (TENS or ABC) they see how schools approach your child. At the next school fair - watch. It’s very interesting. Mine was approached and scheduled same day interviews with schools he had no interest - was that ABC or rapport or… If your question is ‘do they plan’ (you take this one, I’ll take that one) that doesn’t happen at this level.
