See post #2 in this thread.

Lindha I am a scholar also, and about 2 weeks they asked me the same thing, but they told me that they would use it to help us not to hurt us.

Theyâll want to know your preferences not only to know which school(s) to advocate the hardest on your behalf but also, to compare your preferences to the rankings of the other applicants in your cohort. Theyâll ask for their preferences as well and begin the arduous process of predicting which applicant will most likely gain acceptance/fa at which school, given their top choices. Once this is all laid out, theyâll get on the phone with admissions and deliver the sales pitches.

Many educational placement consultants use this same methodology.

Edit: and btw, congrats on your referrals!

emdee- just saw your reference to post #2. I think I crossed wires before replying to linhaâŠ

So in essence, Lindha and Sandakm, yeah, what she said :)

We were also asked for rankings early last week. This is what our program director said:

âWe will use this ranking when advocating on your studentÂs behalf. It may seem like you are Âshowing your hand to the schools. We ask that you have faith in us as we will spin what you say in the most positive and beneficial light. From experience I will tell you that it is detrimental to our efforts to advocate for your student if we donÂt have this info. If a school asks where they stand in a familyÂs ranking and we say Âwe donÂt know they simple move on to the next family they are interested in that we have this info for.â

He also said:

âThis information is invaluable to us as we begin our conversations with schools. I was impressed with the level of thought and detail that many of you incorporated into your responses; you clearly have done your homework on each school and have made the most of your interviews, shadow visits and tours. The more info we have about your thoughts about each school, the better we are able to advocate on your behalf. We have already spoken to two schools this week and they were very happy that we were able to provide some insight about the interest level of a number of our families. We will be continuing our conversations with schools in the coming weeks. Hang in there!â

Good luck Lindha, Iâm rooting for you!

I received a phone call from Hotchkiss tellin me how my applications standed out and how great they were. He/she also asked me how much I was interested in HotchkissâŠthen we continued chatting for like 30 minutesâŠ
Later, I received a phone call from my Exeter interview! He/she basically called to say hello and check on me and tell me that I will receive the letter in a few days!!!

Hey Lindha, I saw you got waitlisted at SPS on the Master List. Did you hear from any other schools yet?

My DD wonât know until Friday or Saturday about her day schools since they mail letters tomorrow (I think via regular mail).

Good luck if you havenât heard yet!

OK so Iâm bored and I need to pass the time until Friday at 3 (when I will likely receive most of my DDâs application decisions via snail mail). I was looking at the ABC website which has been updated since last time I looked.

Based on 2008 stats it was about 35% accepted into program and of those 82% placed. Based on the new 2009 stats they have it is now 31% accepted and 75% placed. Also, the breakdown of groups shows that there are slightly more Multiracial scholars (5%) and Other (4%) whereas last year is said Multiracial/Other (3%).

Anyways just bored so I thought Iâd post.
