I think that the title says it all, but I was just wondering if it would be okay for me to pursue those two majors if I will be on the Pre-Med track once in college (I'm a rising senior in high school at the moment).

Also I would appreciate it if anyone who has majored in Biospychology could tell me more about the major.

This would definitely be impressive to med schools, and you could make it very lucrative by carving out a real niche for yourself (psychiatrist specializing in hispanic communities?). But you do need to be aware that you will have to do one of three things: take abnormally large class loads, do summer terms, and/or do an extra year of undergrad. So it all depends on whether you are willing.

Lumine is right--that is an impressive combo!

However, while medical schools interviewers might like this combo, at the end of the day they are still looking at your MCAT, GPA and related experience.

Major in anything you want but ensure that you can maintian a high GPA and destroy the MCAT. With a dual major you might have to take a higher course load and therefore sacrifice time for other endeavors, such as volunteering or researching, which I'm sure the other premed students will be doing.

Thank you, I appreciate the feedback. Would perhaps taking Spanish on as a minor be a better decision? That way I would have more time to do research, volunteer, etc.

Lumine, you stated that I could work as a psychiatrist in a Hispanic community. However, I should've mentioned that with the biopsychology (psychobiology) major I was intending on becoming a Pediatrician ... Would you still suggest me taking it on then?

My thoughts are that a biopsych major and spanish minor seems to be your best option. You'll also be fulfilling the premed requirements, and as you said you want to take advantage of other opportunities. You don't want to kill yourself :)

In terms of biopsych: I'm no expert, but I've done some research on it and plan to be a cognitive and behavioral neuroscience major after I transfer. It seems to be a great premed major, focusing on the brain and neural system. Of course, my recommending you to major in it is assuming you are interested. If there is something else you enjoy more, you should do that. And if you're considering mainly for premed/pediatrician/etc., you definitely do have other options.

I'll be interested to hear any more thoughts you have!

Actually I was considering being a neuroscience major but I'm really interested in psychology and I figured biopsych would be great because it incorporated both biology and psychology (obv haha). I mean both neuroscience and biopsych are similar .. I think that the only difference really is that biopsych looks at how what's going on in the brain actually affects an individual's behavior (I've always had an interest in abnormal psych), which, to my knowledge, neuroscience does not.

Totally unrelated but I was also considering since I definitely want to be a pediatrician, maybe I should explore developmental psychology as a possible major. But that doesn't nearly interest me as much as biopsych does.
