A Bit Clueless...

Hello :)

I plan to do 2 or 3 SAT Subject tests (at some point in the future), however, being from a country which doesnt have any of the subjects available on the tests in our high schools, my options are a bit limited.

Which subjects would you suggest that I try to take although I have no prior preparation...?

Thank you!

What about science or math? Surely your high school must offer some form of chemistry, physics, biology, math...

It did, but at the time, I wasn't able to take those subjects as majors... [I'm very old now, almost 22 ;)]

So basically, as someone with zero knowledge, I'm just wondering which would be the best subjects for self teaching... [I'm going through some of the perp books to try and get an idea about it as well]

If you're a math person I would say Math Level II because it goes to pre-calculus and most schools teach so sort of pre-cal. But that is the only thing I can think of...

Oh ok, I didn't realize you had finished high school already. Have you done any post-secondary education since? (Sorry, I'm not familiar with Israel's system) Would you be applying to undergraduate schools or graduate schools in the US?

Well, that's the problem.. I'm not a math person at all (I'm trying to catch up on A LOT of material) and I haven't done any post-secondary education since finishing high school.

I've been pretty useless for the last few years actually :P But the plan is to apply to an undergraduate school in the US... Being quite the lazy student in high school I'm aware of how much I need to improve before even applying to any school, but I'm trying to sort of understand what I need to do to start the process. Not looking for the easy way here, but from what I've seen on the College Board site the recommended preparation for these subject tests is about 2 years o:

If you can put a lot of time into memorizing, biology isn't very difficult to self-learn

How are your reading skills? Literature might be an option. Also if you speak foreign languages, you could take language tests.

Best of luck!

I was looking into biology, it's also something I'm interested in taking up in the future... thank you for the advice :)

My reading skills are pretty good [over 2 years in an all English environment at work helps] and I was wondering about lit and languages as well [been wanting to learn Spanish for years!]. I guess they are both an option, it's just a shame I can't take the Hebrew test ;)

What do you think about US History? Any point in approaching that with no prior knowledge?

Thank you again!

the easiest subject tests to learn would be the ones that involve memorizing.

US History and Biology.

Well, this is great news :P

Would the preparation books ("SAT XXX For Dummies" and such) be enough?

The Dummy series isn't popular for SAT and SAT II preparation. For Biology, most likely get Cliff Notes and for US History you should get the AMSCO book.

I see. Could I maybe get links for those 2? (Just to be sure I'm getting the ones you are referring to)

Thanks!

Get the AP Cliffsnotes Biology, instead of the subject test. If you're aiming for a 750+ most of the subject test books don't go indepth, esp if you're self-studying.
