A brief look at Pimentel Hall, the rotating lecture hall

Hey anxious prospective students!

I'm a first year, and I finally got around to documenting/capturing a video of perhaps the coolest lecture hall on the Berkeley campus.

Pimentel Hall, as you will see on this page, is a rotating lecture hall!

Oh and there is also a link to webcasts (there are MANY!) made in Pimentel on that page. You can find out exactly how classes will be!

Google Page Creator is having a little trouble right now.
This is not because of anything you did; it's just a little hiccup in our system that will hopefully go away soon. We apologize for the inconvenience, and recommend you try reloading this page.

Works for me. Do you work for google, unlimitedx, or are you quoting them?

Now it works.

damn it only holds 570 people ??

I thought it was like a 700-people lecture hall......

You'll soon find that bigger isn't always better. Fortunately the classes I've been to, capacity does not max out, and it surely wouldn't be any better if the Professor to student ratio was 700:1. As I added on the page, students do use webcast which is nearly as good (assuming you can stay focused).

THe only good thing about Pimentel is that they can record classes there so you can watch them in the comfort of your own home (though it is easy to blow it off until the last minute).

Only the people in the first quarter rows get a decent enough view to see the board. Other people have to watch the huge camera and depending on how fast the professor moves you can miss out copying notes when he moves on to another section of the board because the camera switches focus.

I have to say, I have sat in the middle section and can still see...
Also, in Chem 3A for example, the Professor writes directly to his ThinkPad which is projected on the jumbo display- he doesn't use any of the chalkboards usually...

Also as for the notes problems, in Chem 1A for example, the professor emails the notes out a few days before lectures so you just have to jot down the "important stuff".

Roland

question: does frechet have his lectures on webcast?

webcast.berkeley.edu

take a look

just did..he doesnt darnit

oop, sorry.
