A Bunch of Questions from a Newbie :)

Hey guys....

I'm applying to a bunch of boarding schools and I'm not sure if I should apply as a repeat for 10th grade or go straight into junior year. I know there are advantages and disadvantages for both, but right now my main concern is getting into the schools I'm applying to, either way. Below is a list where I'm applying, and if anyone knows if what entry level will increase my chance of admission at one of the schools, could you comment?? Thanks so much!!

Schools (So Far):
-Governor's
-NMH
-Loomis
-Hill
-Westminister
-Episcopal (maybe)

Also looking for a safety, as well as other schools similar to the ones above, I'm looking for a big focus on the arts and a variety of curriculum.

Thanks!!!

I don’t know much about applying as an upperclassmen, but at my school, (Hill) it is recommended that you repeat a year. If you are not sure about it then I would highly consider it and consult with the admissions office. I can only speak for The Hill School, but Hill definitely meets the ‘variety of curriculum’ requirement and also has a very nice arts department. The CFTA (Center For The Arts) is one of the newest buildings on campus and is an enormous structure dedicated entirely to all forms of art including theater and tech, photography and video labs, art/sculpture/painting classrooms, and the classrooms where HAM class (History of Art and Music). As for the curriculum, Hill offers 24 different AP classes (and of course plenty of excellent lower level classes) and has dedicated adults who work with you to make sure that you are placed in the class that is the perfect fit for you. After you choose which classes you would like to take, you take placement tests to assure the best fit, and you have plenty of time to change classes even after the year starts. If you have any other questions I just started a thread called “Ask a Hill Student!” and I would be more than happy to answer your questions.
