a c junior year

Im taking an AP class and I have to get a 90% on the final if I want to get a B- in the class but I really don't think I can do it. If I get the C and just get a 5 in the AP exam for the class do you think NYU will overlook it?

Depends on what the rest of your application looks like, what subject the "C’ is in and what school at NYU you will be applying to, among other factors to be considered.

AP stat.
I plan on applying to steinhardt as an education major. I really don’t think I’m terrible at math its just the math classes at my school are hard. I was trying to redeem myself by doing well on the SAT I math and SAT Math IIC. Do you think that they will overlook my bad math grades if I do well on the standardized tests?
thank you :)

AP Stat has so much homework it’s not even funny. You still have to take a final even if you take the AP exam? In my school, we do this final project that’s basically an easy A.

I don’t think one C in an AP class will ruin your app, but hopefully you performed decently in other classes?? Also, Steinhardt may overlook the C because it’s a math class, but doing well on the math subject tests couldn’t hurt.

you need to chill. I had a C in honors physics and I got in to NYU. One C is not going to make or break your application.

haha well actually I got a C in 10th grade second semester for math too :
I just don’t well in math at school so I was just wondering if I could just make it up by doing well on the SAT’s :)

iwishicould,

Certainly getting a high AP Math exam score will allow the Admissions people to see that you are capable in this area though it does not show as a strength in your academic math class grades. Also, if math is hard in your school and the school has that reputation, NYU may be aware of this if your school has a fair amount of applicants to NYU year to year.

It also helps that you want admission into Steinhard and not Stern. Steinhardt should be more forgiving than Stern in terms of Math grades.

Totally agree with grapedrank. I don’t know why people have this perception that a C will kill your app at NYU. This is not Harvard. Half the people who get in have a C here or there sprayed on their transcript. Don’t worry.

ahha thank you so much
I’ve decided that Im not gonna even try to get the 90 in the final and get the C but do well on the AP exam

I got a C in Honors Spanish 5 Jr year, and a C in both semesters of regular Pre-Calc my Jr year (so 3 C’s Jr year) and was accepted ED. No worries as long as your strong in the subjects that you are planning on studying–for example I got an A- in AP Eng Lang and a 5 on the exam and I applied to Tisch so that was more relevant than my math grades.
