A C...

So I am applying to Stanford soon, and I have a question.

Overall, my academic record is pretty good. I have around a 3.85 (not the highest, but within Stanfords range) and a good ACT score. I am deeply involved in my school with several major leadership positions and a varsity sport. I expect excellent reccomendations and am a good writer so my essays are coming along well. I am a Stanford legacy and have done many activities on campus.

There is only one thing- last year I received a C in Precalculus. It is considered the hardest class in my school and is by far the worst grade I have ever received.

Will Stanford (and other colleges) see this and automatically reject me? I am hoping the combination of everything else about me will override it. Is that at all a possibility?

Thanks for any advice.

It certainly won't singlehandedly get you rejected. There are certainly people out there who will say that one C on your transcript is an irreversible black mark, but I think that if you still have a passable GPA (and yours certainly is), then one single grade will not prevent you from being competitive.

No I highly doubt that they would reject you simply because of your C. Will it harm your application? Yeah it definitely will but its only one grade in one subject.

If you get an A in your Calc class first semester this year, it will certainly help.
