If a college sees a C on the midyear grade, are u automatically rejected? Like, I've been accepted to Duke, but my midyear has all As and one C (AP Bio). It is a 79 and the teacher sucked hard. SHould I start packing for community college now?

A friend of mine just got a letter from Swarthmore about a D he received in AP Physics. They made him write a short essay explaining it. But his admission was not revoked.

oh. what about a 79 tho? I got all As everywhere else.

don't worry a C shouldn't change anything

What if you failed a course but are taking it again and getting an A? The only reason I failed is because the teacher wasn't certified and was only fillling in for my other teacher who went on sick leave. I have A's and B's everywhere else and the class was cjemistry which was a junior class that I was taking as a sophmore. I'm making up the credits by taking an after school Latin class. Does that F count as a guillitone to my college chances? My GPA with the grade and not my new ones is a 3.8 at a 91.1667 and I'm 28 in the class.

the thing is, it will sound as if u are blaming ur grade on others no matter what. Just send a letter explaining a personal situation that occured during that time frame and I think they will understand. HOWEVER, NEVER EVER EVER EVER BLAME IT ON THE TEACHER!

But the man wasn't legally certified to teach and 90% of the class got below a C. I'll blame it on personal problems during the duration of the course.

I don't think colleges really care unless its a D or below.

i figured as much.

Doesn't count in sophomore year if it's a Semester long class? Man I'm screwed if it does. Although I got straight A's and B's every other class and every other year and am even averaging a 91.4 in the class I failed,

What grade did u exactly get, Physics? Also, u are gonna need to (for sure) write that letter. Man, i feel u because my Calculus and Bio 2 teachers are both......well there are parents on these boards.

Ouch, 79 is ALMOST a B... lol, nice teachers would have bumped you up a fraction of a point... I'm going to agree with other people who posted and say that one C isn't going to hurt you much, if at all.

Schools do it differently, ariafrost...

At mine:
73-78 C
79-80 C+
81-82 B-
83-88 B

Ask your guidance counselor to explain this one in her recommendation. You can also write a note, but do NOT sound whiny.

Joey

i agree with jprencipe.

I wonder if I could get it removed. I'm making the credit up and raised the grade to an A-. I'm not applying IVY League either. More like UMass or some other state school for the first four years and then finish up at a better school for my Ph.D in Physics.

Don't sweat the C. I received a C on my midyear report. Wasn't a real big deal.

Cry about it, it's just a damn C.

I got no Cs ever, what about if you get one C for a quarter (not even a year grade) in ap calc. I got A first and second quarter (which midyear reflects) but third quarter, which colleges don't see, I might be getting my first C for a quarter in calc. Could they rescind my acceptance??? I am worrying. I will defintely pull that up 4th quarter to an A or B.

Anybody know? Ivies.
