did you guys get a call from a freshman at UCLA asking you to apply for the alumni scholarship? I totally disregarded the scholarship before, but now I might....but sooo many essays, what do you guys think?

i did too...is that a good sign that we got in, or no?

I got a call too, though I wasn't home to take (my brother took a message).

I've already applied for the UCLA Freshmen Alumni Scholarship.

It does not mean that you've been admitted or likely to; the probably went down the list of those who applied to UCLA and called those who filled out the scholarship section.

Nope...you just are part of a list like EG mentioned.

i would recommend that you apply anyway if ucla is one of your top choices, regardless if you got called or not (theres only so many of us alumni scholar volunteers). the scholarship has many benefits besides the money and would be very useful if you get accepted and decide to matriculate here. good luck!

kfc4u, as volunteer, you might know the answer to this question.

Winners of the Freshmen Alumni Scholarships are notified in late April, correct? Doesn't that leave a very short amount of time before we have to send in our SIR?

Do you have an exact date when we receive notification and whether the notification will be online or not?

Thanks.

(Finally, no "Junior" in front of my status.)

"Winners of the Freshmen Alumni Scholarships are notified in late April, correct? "

If you are one of the top 2 or 3 in your Area interview, then you automatically get the $4000 scholarship and will be considered an Alumni Scholar. You will find out about this via phone call from 3/28-4/8 (that's our phone calling volunteer dates, actually).

However, those who are top 2 of their Area interview usually go on to Regional interview, where the top interviewees there get to go on to State Finals, which is from 4/16-4/17 at UCLA. This is where you compete for the $12,000 scholarship. I am not sure when the notification date is for State Finals winners, but since State Finals is in mid-April, I would have to say yes, your notification for the $12,000 scholarship may be in late April.

Nevertheless, you will have already known by early April that you've won at least $4000 (plus opportunity for additional financial need-based grants) and can receive all the perks that Alumni Scholars get.

How are "Area" interviews established? How are regions categorized? Is the Inland Empire one big section? Or is this classified? :)

Kfc4u, I have a question for you:
How can they possibly call so many people? I am asking because the message I got was long and did not sound pre-recorded at all. It sounded very personal, and so I started to feel guilty I was going to let it go because of too many other things coming at me all at once.
Thanks.

"How are "Area" interviews established? How are regions categorized? Is the Inland Empire one big section? Or is this classified?"

I am not an Alumni interviewer so I don't know how they organize their Area regions, but I can give you my example when I interviewed (since you're from the Inland Empire, you may recognize these cities): I'm from Rowland Heights, and was grouped with schools from Diamond Bar, Hacienda Heights, and La Puente. But I think it also depends on the number of applications you get from your Area; there is a high concentration of good schools in my Area and thus a high concentration of apps. I believe Regional interview is when it is more like "Inland empire" or "san gabriel valley" etc. But all this is just what I have noticed, I'm not an Alumni interviewer so I don't know for sure.

aw dang now im unmotivated again...i was thinking there were so many kids they couldn't possibly call them all, so they'd probably call those who were gonna get in...sigh

oh yeah...a lot of my friends also didnt get called so i was thinking it was selective...

I hate to be blunt but, it is an unrealistic vision for anyone who received a call that he or she is being favored in any way. The Alumni Scholarships have absolutely nothing to do with admission decisions and no one should mistake any form of communication--besides the actual acceptance letter--that there is any likelihood you've been admitted, have a great chance of being admitted, or have a great chance of earning the scholarship.

EG,

The term you are looking for is: "Grasping at straws." ;)

alright alright, i guess ill just wait till march then...

but i think i got in....i think...i hope...

Is there an web site for this scholarship? I am not an applicant but want to see what it is.

Here's the general link:

www.uclalumni.net

From there, just look for scholarships.

Or the specific area:
