A campus life question for current Domers

I know lots of you give lots of input on this board, so I have a question for you. If you're on a lot, you know I have a son up there now, and was a student myself back in the 80's--but I have a hunch my son is going to answer the question in whatever way he knows I want to hear, and, as I was a student during the Gerry Faust era, we all did not experience the same brand of football you are experiencing! (In fact, I think we are due some sort of refund!)

In any case, just how wild does the campus get with this incredible resurgent Irish football program in an age of cable sports and Internet? I know five or six games a year taxed even our considerable post-adolescent abilities to over-indulge in festivities...and that was for a team the Chicago Tribune sports guy labeled "masters of the come from ahead loss".

But seven home games? In the Charlie Weis era? Just how wild does the campus get these days? Are you kids still able to get any schoolwork done on weekends? How many people invade the campus these days?

Also, is it true, as my son has told me, that everybody heads off campus for parties these days, so the South Bend police can invade and arrest them all?
Have the students yet figured out not to walk into these traps? Are the police standing down now that the year is in full swing? In my day, they brought in big police dogs to scare us away and shoo us off, but they didn't actually arrest students...

Ah, Irish football is SO MUCH BETTER when the team is WINNING!

Well, since I don't party much, I really can't provide the greatest answer. Campus is crazy during football weekends! I believe the estimate was that there were 30,000 people that were here that didn't even go to the game but just came for the experience, if that tells you anything!

The bigger parties are off-campus but there are still plenty in the dorms. The police have been more active in ticketing students for underage drinking, but I really think a lot of that is because students are dumb enough to go right to them. It is not hard to figure out where these parties are, as they pretty much are at the same locations every week!

I get a ton of work done on the weekends, but then again I have to given my course and work schedule. It just depends on your priorities, but it can be done if you actually want to do it.

I hope that helps some!

It does help. My son has stayed away from the off-campus parties precisely because he has no desire to be arrested. You'd think that, once a site had been busted a few times, the tenants would figure out to quit throwing such big parties...or throw them somewhere else. Oh well...smart kids can be dumb--I know I was!

Glad to hear that it's still possible to get work done on those weekends.

Thanks for your input...as I noted, I remember football weekends, but not ones where the team actually WON! :)
