Someone with these stats wouldn’t be posting here which is why no one has answered your question, because I’f you really had those stats then you wouldn’t really be nervous

Whatarechances hit the nail on the head.

sorry its just that, well people said those are average or below stats for such colleges and that got me really nervous which is why I posted

eagle scout+2340+4.0 gpa = no one could have better chances w/o URM or Legacy

I really do not see the point of this kind of thread.
There are two ways for you to put your stats in context:

 1. go on the website of each school and find their admitted freshman profile
 2. stop by your high school’s college counseling office and look at the Naviance scattergrams for students from your HS with similar stats.

I can see your point siliconvalleymom, sorry i should not have made such a rash decision to post this. But the replys have put my nervous at ease, thank you!

Do a proper research and if you can narrow down to one school and apply ED or EA. Those schools on your list reject thousands of students with stats like yours.

you do good in everything. but where’s the passion? there’s no focus in anything you do

I thought being with boy scouts for 6 years and attaining Eagle Palm Bronze would show that?

Okay, I think I’m the kind of student who should be asking to be chanced. My SAT scores scare the heck out of me.

High school junior! (c/o '13, yeaaaaa!! )

I’m from Maryland and our transcripts include a regular cumulative GPA out of 4.0 and a weighted GPA (called a QPA, or quantitative point average) out of 6.0, depending on whether you’ve taken standard, honors, gifted and talented (G/T), AP/IB courses (listed in order of least to greatest weight. G/T and AP/IB are weighted the same. It is NOT possible to get a perfect 6.0 unless you’ve taken like G/T Physical Education and courses alike, which aren’t offered.)

Ethnicity/Race and gender(this shouldn’t matter, but I heard it could be a deciding factor): African-American female

Lower to Regular Middle Class

GPA: 3.9/4.0
QPA: 5.4/6.0
AP courses: Calculus AB- 5
Biology- 5
English Lang- 4
Chemistry (Senior year)
Calculus BC (Senior year)
English Lit (Senior year)

Never ever gotten a C as a quarter or final grade, and I pride myself in that :)

Other notable courses:

u should try and post this on a new thread

I did, could you please check it out and chance me?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1351130-what-my-chances-johns-hopkins-others-sats-scare-me.html

or you could just respond on here.

well I’m no expert at all but I would say schools like carnegie melon, duke, john hopkins and upenn would be high reachs. but maybe u can make it up through you’re admission essay. try to show some conflicts that you have overcome and such.

apunia are you sure that you got a 5 on AP Euro and not a 4?
and that 2340… nice
and those 2 years varsity tennis… gl with that

okay…
@myraven11- Did you really just try to hijack the thread by posting your OWN INFORMATION IN SOMEONE ELSE’S POST? I don’t really have to read your specs to know that you’re not getting in to most of the schools that you’re going to apply to, and thats because you’re a college obsessed jerk whos never dedicated a day in his life to something worthwhile. I think you should learn some proper manners and maybe a little common sense before you even think of applying to any college.

@Apunia
What kind of ticks me off about your information is the fact that you listed “president of a club for 3 years”, as though that were significant. What club? You have a misconception that being “president of a club” of ANY club would be a good thing to fill up a line on your college resume. That kind of mentality will get you an auto-reject from every single competitive college that you apply to- hands down. Its not about being “president of a club for X amount of years”, its about dedicating time and effort to an activity that you are passionate about. Everything from Varsity speech and debate to tennis won’t help you much if you don’t have significant accolades, because those are competitive activities. Also, mostly anyone can join those activities, what makes you special? The fact that you’re varsity doesn’t make up for anything; tens of thousands of applicants are varsity in their sport/ activity, and there are national and state ranked Deca/debate/tennis players. So again, what makes you special? Your volunteering things are nice- except you never mentioned what you volunteered for. Thats a problem. Its the same mentality that let you put “president of a club” without mentioning what club. You mention all of these awards that you got for volunteering, without mentioning what you did to get those awards. In volunteering, its not the end that counts, its the journey. The fact that you posted just the awards for your volunteering efforts and no mention at all of what you volunteered for will show the adcoms that you don’t give a damn about anything you’re doing, and just want the hours. This is an auto-rejection. I don’t know you personally, and I know I’m being very judgmental, and I apologize for being so, but I sincerely think that based on the information that you put up on this post, that you need to reevaluate your stats and the methodology of how you go about doing things. Of all things, policy debate is the one thing that taught me to be true to myself and do the things that I care about doing. Do things because you care about it, not because you want to fill up a line on your college resume.

From my standpoint, without me being judgmental, you seem like a slightly below-average applicant. This is because everything thats on your list can be done without much effort except for your work in the scouts. Your scores are pretty good, but after a certain threshold, those don’t matter anymore. Very high reaches for all of the colleges in your list.

Ahh crap i had a good responce all typed up, and then it all crashed. The club is Harvard Model Congress, and i really, really do like Policy. Made an original aff and 2 original DAs against HSR. CollegeLeggo is my partner. Most of my ECs are centered around political Science things as well as boy scouts. TBH those academic stats are not real (besides the GPA); they are just projected from what i got on ELITE tests. Can’t post more because the confidentiality of this thread is already ruined lol. I would delete it but i dont know how to. This thread is supper old and College Leggo just revived it.
wheni reflect on my profile as of now, academics is what i got to focus on, i can tell u what i did and how i did it if u care enough to PM me, but thanks for the responce
Hopefully, this thread wont come alive again.

PS: I swear to god collegeleggo FIX THAT 1NC STRAT, START DOING SOME WORK

@collegeleggo, got a 2230 single highest score on a GC Elite test. Super score 2280.
