A chance to defend oneself

I was the secretary of Spanish club before it was disbanded and the sponsor moved to Wisconsin.

My question is, if I should put that officer position on a college application and the college decides to verify it, which they will find is a 'nonexistant' club, will I get a chance to explain myself or will they stop considering me altogether?

Or should I state up front on the application that the club no longer exists?

Thanks for any insights.

Just put the years for which you were the officer. If a college wants to verify, your school will be able to verify that you were the secretary for those years.
