A chance would be awesome!

<p>Hello! </p>

<p>I am a rising junior who hopes to go to Brown for political communication/journalism</p>

<p>My Stats:
GPA: 3.78 unweighted 4.23 weighted
Class Rank: Don’t tell us until senior year. Top 15%
Freshman Year: All Honors
Sophomore Year: All Honors and 1 AP
Junior Year: 4 AP and the rest Honors
Senior Year: All AP (Maybe one Honors?)</p>

<p>AP’s:
Sophomore - AP European History (4)
**First non-senior in school history to take the class, ended with A-</p>

<p>Junior- AP US History, AP Language and Composition, AP MacroEconomics, AP MicroEconomics</p>

<p>Senior - AP Biology, AP Spanish, AP Government & Politics, AP Spanish, AP Calculus</p>

<p>Tests:
PSAT: 196 (Would’ve qualified for National Merit, but can’t as a sophomore
SAT: 2050 (Wanted to see how I would do w/o classes or studying)
ACT: Should I take them?
Subject Tests: Most likely English, US History, Math</p>

<p>Extracurriculars:

  • Debate Team: 4 years States Each year, captain senior year
  • Newspaper: Staff Writer, Assistant Editor (upcoming year), Editor in chief (Senior year)
  • Golf team: JV 9th and 10th, V 11th and 12th, Captain Senior Year
  • “The Challenge” Team contest in our area, similar to jeopardy, was backup last year, will be starting next two years (broadcasted on TV!!)
  • Model UN: 10th grade, only started last year in our school
  • Musicals: Will be in all 8 in high school, no leads, just for fun
  • Talisman: All male acapella group in school, all 4 years</p>

<p>Future EC’s:

  • Spanish Honor Society
  • National Honor Society</p>

<p>Outside of school activities:

  • Volunteering at Boys and Girls Club - 400+ hours (Started in 6th grade)
    **now I have a job there as well</p>

** seems like too much, but I spend my summers there (8-10 hrs/day, 6 days a week)</p></li>
<li><p>Volunteering at First Tee chapter (Golf for kids in innercity)

<p>Jobs:

  • Caddie at local country club
  • Occasionally works for my aunts catering business
  • Aforementioned staff position at Boys and Girls Club</p>

<p>Recommendations:
I can get REALLY good recs from people where I volunteer, they like me a lot (lol)
I also have many teachers at school who like me</p>

<p>Current students are often unwilling (and unable) to chance applicants, for reasons that are outlined on numerous chance threads in the Brown forum. However, I’m posting to let you know that Brown doesn’t offer a communications/journalism major, though that doesn’t preclude it from being a good choice if you want to go into those fields. I can’t speak very much to the latter, though, apart from the fact that the Herald seems to be doing a pretty decent job.</p>

<p>Oh okay, I didn’t know that… but would you think that I would have a good chance of getting in?</p>

<p>It’s a little early for that, as schools don’t tend to put much focus on your freshman year. You’re clearly going in the right direction. Just keep up the good work.</p>
