I am applying to
UMich-Ann Arbor
UVa
U of Wisconsin-Madison
U of Washington--Seattle
U of Illinois-UC
Purdue
Ohio State-Columbus

any chances please? thanks!

and would it be ok if I dont submit reccommendations for Purdue and Washington?

I study at Wah yan College Kowloon, where do you study at?

I know some past students at my school that were admitted to Umich. They all have 4-5 As. You can still try but don't expect too much.

It seems like you have good ECs and some awards, although I am not sure what they really mean.

I'm from St Stephen's Girls' College
yea I know my stats are poor...and I'm only considering umich as a reach school..perhaps it's even impossible for me to consider it as a reach school...?
=( maybe I dream too much

Do you have an MSN handle?

Well, I am applying to US as well this year, so I'd be starting next year fall. So that makes us in the same year?

Wait, you might be in Form 7. Just to remind you, all universities in the UC system will not accept students from HK without ALs. And you can find this information on their website or ask them through email.

I'm in F.6, but as u look above, I'm not applying to any UCs
perhaps I can PM u my msn ad.

UMich-Ann Arbor reach
UVa reach
U of Wisconsin-Madison match
U of Washington--Seattle match
U of Illinois-UC match
Purdue reach
Ohio State-Columbus safety

O_O I thought purdue would hv been a safety..

bump...any more please?

A chinese girl(super girl) from P.R China ,got 1490 old SAT, got into purdue without FA. A chinese boy(ordinary but rich)from P.R China, got 1300 old SAT, got into purdue BBA.

Mind asking why all of the Chinese are trying to apply to purdue? Hey I was in Guangdong for 4 years but my cantonese is really poor :p

Hmm IMO

Ann Arbor huge reach
UVa reach
U of Wisconsin match
U of Washington match
U of Illinois match/reach
Purdue reach
Ohio State match/safety

gosh.... im also from hong kong but i've been here for like 4 years... my sat 1 scores are even worst than you! well at least in english.... i got 740 in math, 580 writing and 480 reading..... oh and i went to Shatin Gov. secondary school up to F.2

Ann Arbor is not a huge reach, and neither is urbana... both accept 65%

purdue is definately not a reach, 80% acceptance... but they do need a counselor recommendation, and AA needs a teacher rec and a counselor rec

im also applying to urbana, AA and purdue... and i'm chinese too, haha

Public high schools in HK generally don't provide many facilities for personal growth, in my opinion. The schools don't really encourage their students to be like those in USA. Sure, we are great at exams, but that is inadequate for US top schools. That's why most of the Ivies are out of reach and Purdue is a fine choice.

hm...why r so many ppl thinking purdue as a reach? I hv planned it as a safety!

vehement: well..I'm not sure, but I've heard that purdue is gd, and not hard to enter too...and has a high international student population too? perhaps that's the reason y so many chinese apply there? (:P I dun even know that many chinese apply there actually..so am I facing huge competition? ><")

kenneth: o no >< another competition!

hotingzilla: yea, i agree..and teachers often give opportunities to the academically exceptional good ones but neglect the others, which is quite unfair! like a person with 6-8As in CE will be given all chances while one with less As but as smart or even smarter will not be given that many great opportunities..!

bumpy bump bump..

purdue match/safety
but not absolutely safety

thx, anymore?

Michigan - super reach (you only got one A, right?)
UVa - super reach

UIUC - reach/match (super reach for engineering)
U of Wisconsin - reach/match

Purdue - match (reach for engineering)
U of Washington - match
Ohio State - match/safety

UWash may be quite a bit harder this year as they don't have enough space to accomodate all their in-state students. But they are changing from strict academic to holistic this year (i.e., no more AI and grid) so that may be to your advantage.

Don't listen to Kenneth. Go ask your career counselor how many people from your school got into Michigan last year ... and how many A's it takes.

Btw, UVa is the only school on your list that requires SAT II.

Do not relate admit rate to your chances. High admit rate can mean a lot of spaces available or few underqualified applicants.

According to my school counsellor, UMich takes 4-5As in the HKCEE to get in. The SAT isn't really that important.

WOW.. great school, St Stephen's Girls' College and Wah yan College Kowloon....... I remember I was rejected by WYK in my f.1 application... :'(
