This is just like deja vu. A few days ago, a few Columbia ED applicants received emails from the financial aid office concerning missing documents. I was among them, so naturally I was inclined to believe that it was some divine sign of my acceptance. However, yesterday I, along with what seems like a thousand qualified applicants, were deferred or rejected. Those kids also received an email. But, some kids who received an email were also accepted. So it doesn't really mean anything except that the college is missing necessary documents from you and needs to check you off their incomplete documentation list. I really don't intend to burst anyone's bubble, but I thought this knowledge might help put you at ease about the decisions process. Good luck to everyone! There appears to be more competitive applicants than ever this year. :)

P.S. I really wish that UChicago would be more excited about releasing its decisions - I knew three days in advance when I was receiving Columbia's decision. WHERE'S OUR EMAIL?

supernova, how do you explain people who didn’t complete their forms but didn’t get an email reminder? (motion12345 and katydone)

This is speculation, but my guess would be that they don’t necessarily require certain documentation to the make their estimate. Because what you are getting is an estimate as opposed to a finalized package, they presumably don’t need a several documents all saying that you have $300 in your savings account and don’t own any additional real estate outside your home. But I could be completely wrong. Also, these places are so disorganized. I don’t mean this as any sort of insult as I completely understand how many documents they are dealing with, but it is extremely difficult to keep track of every single document and send emails to everyone regarding their financial status.

Again, I can only share what limited experience I have had with this, but I just don’t want everyone to get: a) excited if they got an email or b) upset if they didn’t. You just have to say que sera, sera and wait for your decision. Which sucks.

thanks that is encouraging. i didnt turn in my 08 tax form ( did everything else and checked the box) so naturally i was prety much moved to tears reading this forum this morning, but you know wait it out and whatever happens happens
