Does the rigor of your senior year courseload affect admissions? and if so, how much? Both EA/ED and RD.

I'm deciding whether I should take 3 or 5 APs next year. 3 is pretty average for a smart kid in my school while 5 is really competitive. my profile, when i apply for colleges, will stress upward trend with an increase in rigor. I can definitely handle 5, but the question is, is it worth it?

sorry if the question is a big vague but I just want to hear a couple of opinions.

Im a Senior in HS right now. I have all of my credits and im only taking the required classes to graduate which happens to be onlye 4 classes. Three of my four classes are APs
AP Psychology
AP Government
AP Statistics
Im also taking Bible Literature, which is much harder then all of my APs.

I dont think that it would be necessary to take 5 APs. Taking 3 should be enough. From the college councelors I have spoken to, it is to my understanding that colleges want to see that you are making an effort your senior year and not slacking off, but at the same time you dont need to over exhaust your self by taking too many rigorous cources. Your cource load your senior year does not define your acceptance to that school. Your GPA, SAT, ACT, Essay, Personal Statement, ect. dertermine your acceptance. Colleges look at your senior classes as an extra pushing factor if you are borderline. BUT YOUR SENIOR GRADES DO COUNT. I have herd numerous stories of schools revoking the privilege to attend that school because a senior didnt think that their grades would count.

I don't know how much anyone here can help you. You're the only person knowledgable of what you can handle for a courseload. Take the most rigorous courseload you can handle. If you can handle 5, you should take 5.

sorry to bump up an old post but i’m still on the fence about my schedule.

hmom5 - the school i’m interested in are umich, nyu, lehigh. 25-40 USNews.

the current schedule i’m working with is:

Calc BC
Physics B
Psyche
Literature
Microecon

I just want to make sure I’m doing everything I can do indicate that the student I am now is completely different from the student I started HS as. Right now I have a solid SAT score, but a slightly below average GPA.
