A couple o' questions

To all current and former Cal Poly students,

As the days go on I find myself thinking of Cal Poly as the place I’d like to be next year, but I do have a few questions. Browsing this forum has lead me to believe that student-teacher interactions are important to success in college. Would you guys say that professors at Cal Poly are open to their students and will take time to talk to them outside of class during office hours? Basically, are the professors approachable?

Secondly how would you guys rate the clubs and student life on campus. Are most clubs there just for resume sparklers or are the students that man them actually interested in their own club? Are things happening on campus during the weekends or is just a quiet place while students leave to pursue other, y’know, stuff?

I know that the best way to answer these questions is to actually visit the campus which I am going to do very soon but I figure asking those that have actually been there and are there could also lend some help.

All answers are appreciated.

-In my experience, the professors have been very approachable. They have flexible office hours and constantly encourage students to come in and talk. This is more so in the upper-division classes, however, as the classes are smaller. Keep in mind this is coming from a bio major.

-I've really enjoyed my involvement in clubs. I'm currently vice-president of a political club, and we have a dedicated membership and contact with community members.

-Athletic events are usually well-attended on the weekends, but most students don't live on-campus. The downtown is almost always buzzing with college students, as well as Avila and Pismo Beaches.
