A couple of Bama Bound suggestions

For those of you heading to Bama Bound here’s a couple of suggestions.

If your DD is going through recruitment don’t forget to visit The Trunk to order your Bid Day Basket. The Trunk has moved downtown to 2107 University Blvd…next to Moes. Bid Day baskets are delivered on Bid Day to the sorority your DD pledges. they get the list very early in the morning :). Since they are delivered in the order they are received you really need to order ASAP. I know y’all want them to be at the house when your DD arrives. It’s a great tradition! You can also order online at their website heybama.com.

Many girls receive bouquets on Bid Day. There are lots of great florists but I have used Matt Clinton Designs 705 Paul W Bryant Drive Tuscaloosa, AL 35401
(205) 464-0488. They do lovely arrangements in the colors of the sorority your daughter pledges (they also get the list early Bid Day morning). They deliver to the sorority house so that the bouquet is waiting for your DD when she arrives.

I also wanted to suggest a stop in at Expeditions. It’s located across the street from Buffalo Phils. The address is 1201 University Blvd. They carry a great line of shirts and tanks called Tusk Wear. They have really caught on with students and are a little different than the traditional Alabama wear. When we were in Tuscaloosa for A Day I bought several t-shirts and a couple of tanks. You can google Tusk Wear and see some examples. They also carry PFG shorts and shirts as well as Patagonia shorts and shirts. The Patagonia shorts for women are becoming quite popular. they have a Facebook page with links to the clothing they carry.

For the infamous Nike shorts, we found that The Athletes Foot had a huge selection. Kinnucans has Chacos and will carry Judith Marsh Game Day Dresses. Both are in Mid Town Village.

Also i thought I’d pass along that many of the sorority girls are now wearing tennis shirts with their over sized t-shirts instead of the Nike shorts. They have also begun to wear the Nike running skirts. I know this because when DD was home we “stocked” up.

My suggestions.

Stop in Gallettes and have a yellowhammer or three. (Greeks and parent’s of greeks only. GDI’s stay the H E double toothpicks out)

If under a .08 drive down to Mugshots and get a McDonald burger and some fried pickles. If over a .08 have someone drive you.

See step 1

That’s my first priority when I arrive to help with recruitment on August 5!!!

Dang, Casino, where were you before we went to Bama Bound? We went straight to Mugshots (at 0.0) and didn’t know about the Yellowhammers.

Alphimommy - Thank you so much for the fashion update! Does this mean the Nike tempo shorts reign is coming to an end? Between 3 girls we have collected quite a few pairs over the years. By tennis shorts do you mean the Under Armour type shorts that my girls have started to buy? I hope so! I haven’t seen much of the tennis skirts around town yet except on the tennis players but I’m sure that will be changing! Tusk wear is cute! D bought a tank at the Shirt Shoppe with an elephant. Not sure if it’s Tusk Wear. Still cute though!

It cracks me up how North Face and Patagonia are so popular. My husband has a lot of North Face and Patagonia clothes and camping gear that are at least 25 years old from his backpacking hiking days! One of our D was wearing a “vintage” North Face jacket this past winter! Kids can’t believe we would know of such items wayyy back then!

Nike Tempo shorts still reign but the new thing is the running skirts…have you seen them? the look like Tennis skirts but are lighter weight. I saw quite a few girls wearing them during A Day weekend. Haven’t seen the Under Armour shorts around…have seen some North Face ones.
Love the shirts at The Shirt Shop!!! I am pretty sure they aren’t Tusk Wear but cute and popular all the same :)…
Stay tuned will post another fashion update live from Tuscaloosa when I head down to help with recruitment!

are you getting there the 5th? i think we will be leaving the 5th … or the 4th … cant remember.

as far as the tennis or running shirts … why bother. they wear the shirts so big that they might as well just throw a belt on and call it a dress! not sure why this look ever caught on!

ok, wear a shirt a size larger or something, but an XL on a 100 pound girl just looks dumb.

Mike-I agree! I bought my daughter a Medium T-shirt at the Olympic Swim Trials. While appreciative, she still scoffed that it wasn’t a Large. Huh? You’re an XS. Why do you insist on GIANT? May be comfy but not attractive, imho.
I wore an XL tee and tempo shorts to the Farmer’s Market yesterday. I felt so self-conscience because I was afraid that people might think that I forgot my bottoms. Haha.

my daughter will only wear one size bigger. exceptions might be made for free tshirts, since they might not have your preferred size.

i have a few shirts that run large … i feel like a slob when i wear them. (and i am on the comfy dressing side).

The Shirt Shoppe = Elephant Wear

Expeditions and Woods & Water = Tusk Wear

D won’t wear an L or XL tshirt and will only wear a medium around the house! She and her friends won’t even consider a shirt unless it’s their true size and were very happy that all the free shirts they received at Bama Bound were size smalls!

missread - if you are just now doing bama bound, you may be in for a surprise! : )

No, they all did BB at the end of May. Maybe they are the reason all the smaller sizes are gone now!

I guess I am odd man out…I like the big t-shirt with nike shorts. DD has Mediums and Larges. She brought a bunch home from Freshman year so now I have a new stock :). Love the comfort colors ones the best! We were excited that Bama gave out comfort colors shirts at their receptions this year. All of the recruiters wanted the shirts as well…and yes all of the girl recruiters go big ones.
I do think that the big shirts and the tennis skirts and running skirts are a different look but I too wear them. I have to tell you that those running skirts are very comfy!
Bamagirls .thnx for the clarification…both lines of shirts…very cute :).
Mike…I am not sure what date I will be getting there… DH has his Heart Dr’s appt on 8/1 but DD needs help with move in and then I am slated to help all week of recruitment. I really can’t go from 8/1 to 8/18 but might…DH’s bday is the 18th and as much as I love him I AM NOT missing Bid Day! We will have to celebrate when I get home. DD’s sorority isn’t leaving for retreat until the 19th anyway.

missread - i didn’t mean you won’t get smalls. i meant you may be surprised when/if your daughter comes home and has adopted the new look! : ) once she gets there and it becomes the norm, she may decide she likes it, too!

OK-with my DD being around 5’ tall, all of her big t-shirts (mediums but wanting larges) look like dresses and you can’t see the shorts! I really hope I’m not being judged, as a mom, letting my D go around town looking like she has no pants on! I think the running skirts would disapear even more…

DD is 5’3…the running skirt hangs just a tad below the shirt :0…no judging…they are in college now !

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the comfort colors shirts…we go bigger too. They just get more comfortable with every wash!:)
