Im really mad at my grades this semester. I got three Bs! I dont mind getting a B in AP US history, i suck at history. But i got Bs in precal and french! and i got like a 92% in both of them!! thats .5 % away from an A. that just makes me really mad. Im worried cos i go to a really competitive school and this probably brings down my class rank a lot. I have a 4.4 cumulative GPA (im a junior). I’ve gotten all As in the other AP classes. Im just wondering if its going to look bad on my transcript when i go from one B first semester to three the second- like, would they think im slacking off? the truth is, i did slack off. its kinda ironic b/c those two were my easiest classes. hw counted for ~20% in both classes & i should’ve done more of it.
may be i shouldn’t be so worried…i do have good EC & goodish test scores
Please help.

90% isnt an A at my school either. But 93% for an A? Now that sucks. All I had to do was pull off 92%.

What kind of schools are you looking at? I mean, one or two B's for an Ivy League isn't going to kill you, and a few at a competitive school isn't the end of the world. But if you slacked and didn't do your homework then you probably should not be applying to an Ivy League and your grades will show that.

Stright A's are not necessary to be accepted into an Ivy. While the majority of your grades should be A's, a couple of B's in there are not going to be all that devistating. A lot depends on your class rank, and your test scores.

no, im not planning to go to an Ivy league school. im looking at unc chapel hill right now- im just wondering about my chances of getting a merit scholarship there cos my parents aren't gonna like what i want to major in so they might not agree to pay the tuition

Well, even with a few B's, as long as you pull of your essay well, you should be able to make UNC Chapel Hill. It's a competitive school, but it should still be okay since you have a pretty strong transcript. What are your SAT's and EC's? And for most schools, if you're choosing a relatively 'unknown' major, you stand a larger chance for acceptance. What's your proposed major?

obviously they (admissions) want you to get all A's, but they know that most people won't. If you don't get in somewhere, it won't be because of a couple B's.

/my high school you have to get a 94 to get an A

i hate ppl with great grading scales.. i go to one of toughest high schools in the nation and we don't get an 'awesome' curve. 94+ is A, 90+ is B+, 84 is B.

well
i went to chapell hill during september and toured the campus. during the informational session, the admissions lady said they'd even let one or two C's slip by- as long as the rest of your criteria was strong.

i wouldn't worry too much about it. i got 3 B's my first semester of 11th grade (my lowest in high school! but i also had a month out of school from hurricane ivan.), so we're sort of in the same boat.

but seriously. those are AP or honors classes and they'll realize that. especially since the grades are A's at other schools.

ps- wasnt the APUSH test awful? it's sad, but i'm shooting for a two.

yeah it was
i hate history. <---period
i got Bs in one AP, one honors & one regular class. yeah pretty sad. i was just too arrogant, i should've done my hw.

cantwaittoleaveky, i dont really know. probably something like astronomy. my parents want me to do premed

but i think im over it now. cant do anything about it now, can i

Not when that's the only kind of grading scale you've known your whole life. :)

Don't worry too much about not having all As. It's best to keep the Bs to a minimum, but they won't kill your chances, especially if they're in difficult classes.
