A couple of notes on internship applications

Was talking to someone who is reviewing apps for a summer internship. A few notes relevant to this board:

1) It's awfully competitive. This organization received over 500 applications for 10 spots for this summer. Very well qualified students aren't getting to the interview stage. College GPA's under 3.7 weren't getting much consideration given the depth of the pool.

2) Proof your apps. Don't say that you have a "deeply seeded" desire to work in field X when you mean "deeply seated."

3) Know something about the organization you're applying to, its values and its concerns. Reflect how you fit in your app. Don't refer to "the business" if it's a non-profit.

4) A cover letter is not a narrative recapitulation of the rest of your application.

This is good advice - definitely need all the advice we can get especially in times likes these. Making simple mistakes on your application can help set you apart - the wrong way.
