I've been using CC as a resource for a quite a long time now, and after submitting my QuestBridge application just a few days ago I feel that it's time to create an official account here.

For the National College Match, I see that the deadline for submitting everything (test scores, etc.) is on November 5th. I'm scheduled to take the ACT on October 27th, but I'm not sure if the score will still be considered by the colleges. Does anyone know?

The QuestBridge website is rather vague:
"In order to be fully considered for admission with a College Match scholarship to a specific college, you need to send any required SAT Subject Test scores directly to the college by the November 1 deadline for college-specific requirements."

I've only taken the SAT once back in January (middle of my junior year) and while the score was decent considering that English is not my first language - 1750 (550CR/640Math/540WR) - it could be a whole lot better (at least a 2000 with more practice since I only did 1 the night before the test).

I'll also be taking the TOEFL, but I still haven't set a date. I can take it on October 28th or in mid-November (giving me more time to prep), depending on whether or not I decide to rank.

Otherwise, I'll probably apply for Regular Decision.

And then there's the question of ranking or not (deadline: October 15th)...

Any help would be appreciated.

These questions have answers only known by you.

I do believe that your Oct 27th test date is fine in regards to the scores being considered. However what you quoted is in regards to SAT subject tests, not the SAT specifically. You can write QB at questions@questbridge.org They are super busy but they are there to help you through this process. Are you on their Facebook page? That will get you more immediate answers.

Have you been practicing for the SAT and are getting scores around 2000 or are you just saying that it is possible IF ? Over a 2000 would be a much better score to use.

I am not sure, but I don’t think the TOEFL is a score that is considered with the Questbridge Match program. if it is, it would be better to take it in October, although I think that I’ve read that it takes quite a while to get a score report. Questbridge Matching is done I think by Dec 1, so there is a definite crunch and having all the info in front of them when they review your application is going to be necessary.

It sounds like you have not taken any SAT subject tests. Many of the QB schools “require” them. Some schools will allow the ACT + writing to substitute, but not all. Do make sure you take the + writing when you take the ACT.

In regards to ranking… if you want to be on the safe side, just rank the 4 that are non-binding in the order of your preference. Remember that you have to be accepted as a finalist for ranking to matter.

Good luck.

Is there anything to lose by ranking colleges in the NCM? (apart from the binding factor, which isn’t that big of a deal for me personally - most schools which I’m thinking of ranking have respectable business programmes). I’m not planning on applying Early Action/Decision elsewhere.

I know the chances of getting matched (particularly as an international applicant - only Brown, Carleton, Grinnell, Princeton, Swarthmore, Tufts, University of Chicago, Washington & Lee, and Yale officially accept intls. - and given my grades) is very low.
