A couple of questions (please help)

First some background:
I'm attending a CC and am hoping to transfer as a geography major to UCLA or UC Berkeley.
I'm going to apply this fall for the 2010 school year.

First question:
Do these UC's (LA & Berk) care about the unitload I take each semester? I was thinking of only taking 8 units for upcoming fall, but am worried that it won't look too good on my transcripts if I don't take a full load each semester. Does this matter at all to them as long as I keep a high GPA? And I am working (part-time on campus).

Second question:
I am thinking of doing credit-by-exam for two Spanish classes. That would be an easy way to earn 8 transferable semester units. I've spoken to transfer counselors and they've told me that the UC's are fine with transfering credit-by-exam units. However, I do want to go to grad school and I heard that they factor in credit/no credit courses taken as an undergrad as "C" grades when calculating GPA. Would this also include credit-by-exam units?

Thank you!!!

i would take a full time student course load- 12 units at least

I can’t answer the second question but for your first one, I don’t think they’ll care how many units you take per semester because it’s common for people to be working full time and only take 2-3 classes per semester. (I think there might be a problem with you being a part time student however with financial aid/insurance if that applies.)

The only thing though is that you have at least 60 semester units done by Spring '10. And it’s advisable to have as much of IGETC and pre-reqs done by Fall '09.

I took one class for last fall and still got into UCLA.
