Hiya,

I am transferring to (insert name of college here) next Spring as a transfer student. If you must know, I am currently attending a community college, and I have a 3.88 GPA which will probably go up a little.

Anywho, my question is whether or not to double major in History (concentration on American History) and English. It seems that my new school offers the following: General English, Literature, Literature and Writing, Creative Writing, Linguistics, and the one I am taking into serious consideration, Rhetorical and Applied Writing. They also offer three of those, including rhetorical and applied writing, as minors.

1) When students start to take upper level courses are courses outside of the major a requirement? I have to take a year or two of a foreign, but other than that..

2) I would like to major in English to teach English/History, preferably in community college. Which major would help the most? Take the following into consideration: I am not really looking forward to literature (yet), and Rhet and Applied only requires one lit course. Which one is most useful for teaching and what does each one in involve?
That one was a loaded question.

I might add more if people respond. Thank you in advance.
