Acceptance Day is August 18th this year. This is the day that the "New Cadets" (the name given to the members of the incoming class during Beast) become "Cadets" and are accepted into the Corps. This occurs officially with a parade on Saturday morning. It is a very moving time -- to see the plebes physically become part of the Corps of Cadets will bring tears to many eyes. Historically after the parade the cadets will go back to their companies for any duties, and then will be released to spend the rest of that day, and the day on Sunday, with their families. They have to stay within proscribed limits (the local area). Usually they spend the bulk of that time eating and sleeping, in that order. Families enjoy watching them do both! It is great to see them, and the changes that have already occurred by that point. It is very worthwhile to go if you can afford to make the trip for both that and PPW. If you cannot, do not fear -- there will be many cadets folded into other families as "surrogate" sons and daughters. No one will be left sitting in the barracks being lonely. I hope that answers your question!

A Day marks the end of Reorgy week and Beast. It is the first time since arrival that you will be able to see your friends and family. You will have walking privileges but I may be wrong, you may be able to go to NYC or Newburgh- again I might be wrong. If your friends and family are not able to attend, as USMA08Mom said, you can be taken as a surrogate by another family. In the case that my own family cannot attend, I actually already know a group that gathers by Ike Hall. It's a nice picnic with other families who sometimes join the group. It's down the steps in the clearing under the trees.

Historically (I use that word because things do change) the plebes WILL NOT be allowed to go to either NYC or Newburgh. The limits of walking privileges usually extend no farther than the Bear Mountain Bridge. That limits your travel, but there are still plenty of places you can go. There was a lot of heartburn for the class of 2009 when the rumor ran through the class that they were allowed to go to Palisades Mall and was acted upon by some. You DO NOT want to be spotted by upperclassman somewhere outside the limits of the area you are allowed!

Actually, last A-Day a couple of my friends went out for dinner in NYC, but then again, I may be remembering wrong (I know a pretty healthy mix of the classes)...I'll ask around.

PS- when the Firsties come at night drunk, make a point to do something fun if you're on patrol that night.

PS - Don't do that to the Firsties, they're probably less drunk than you think they are and they will deal with you in the morning. Your best bet is greet, inspect the ID card and say "Thank you, have a nice evening, Sir/Ma'am." Now if they steal your bayonet, then you can do as you please. Don't be the idiot who says "Only a real cadet would know the Corps" if they forget their ID card, and expects them to recite it.

Also - Be aware of what the limits are for walking privledges, and do not be the plebe at UNOs in civvies with their parents...who is then discovered by their platoon leader. Bad times, all around.
