A Decision Has Been Made

Amandarin - my son will also be at Penn State.

Waitlisted…

For those that have been waitlisted/offered Blinn - what kind of stats did you have?

Grcxx3 - eh I had mediocre stats. I’ll copy and paste it from my discussion lol.

-Senior at Bellaire High School in Houston/Bellaire, Texas area
-Class Rank: 247/747 (top 32%…I know it’s pretty terrible. the top 10% at my school is a 4.6 out of a 5.0 GPA :/)
-GPA: 3.8 out of a 5.0 (weighted).
-ACT: 26 (32 English, 25 Math…I’m bad at Math. haha)
-SAT: Combined M + R = 1200, but I didn’t send in my SAT scores because it was just a little bit above a combined 1700 (too low in my opinion), and I don’t have the money to retake it over and over again.

Course load
Freshman year: PreAP Bio, PE, PreAP World Geography, PreIB French 2, Health, Speech, PreAP Geometry, PreAP English 1

Sophomore year: Regular Chemistry, Textiles, AP World History, PreIB French 3, PE, PreAP Algebra 2, PreAP English 2, Regular Chinese 1

Junior year: PreAP Physics 1, PreIB Chinese 2, AP US History, AP/IB French 4, Regular PreCal, AP English 3, AP Computer Science, Regular Music Theory

Senior year: AP English 2, AP/IB Chinese 3, AP Government, AP Macro, AP Calculus AB, AP/IB Psychology

So basically, 11 AP classes, 10 Pre-AP classes, 4 regular classes, and random electives.

Extracurricular activities/Honors/etc
-Officer in United Way Kids’ Way
-Honorable Mention in Chinese Speech Contest in sophomore year
-3 year participant of Nation French Contest
-Active member of 4 other clubs
-Worked at Marshalls for a few months
-Volunteered at Stella Link Library, Solari Hospice Care, and various fun runs, charitable events, etc.

you?

was there anyone who got rejected or did we all just get thrown on the wait list?

also does a&m accept any supporting documents at this point? (e.g. sending in 3rd quarter grades)

@Sand your an idiot you should have sent those scores, to get auto admit you need to be top 25 and have 1300, that 1200 looks alot better than your 26, especially since the SAT is harder. that alone may have gotten you in, but im sure you got into other great schools.

yea i would have went to Penn State too,

and @steell know they only alow u to send your final HS transcript with your graduation date

Wait listed :expressionless: Baylor it is :), whatever, there Biology program is better anyway, I was hoping for A&M cause they are cheaper with a decent Bio program

sandrabui - thanks for the info.

I am actually asking for my younger son (a junior ). He is very interested in A&M (College of Geosciences), but won’t be top 25%. He will probably finish with around a 3.8, which will put him around 30%. Don’t have his SAT scores yet, but he will be taking the ACT as well. I am just trying to get an idea of his chances. I wouldn’t mind him doing Blinn - a good way to slowly adjust to a big school.

My older son, a senior, will be going to Penn State. His “adjustment” to such a big campus will be helped by being in the Honors College and the Blue Band.

@Grxx3 you could transfer your kid to a public school, if he isnt in one already. he would probably be top 20%

pierrechn - he IS in a public school. And I have lots of personal experience with private schools.

Well, got waitlisted etc. I am going to take waitlist but I going to plan now on Texas Tech. I felt like I had everything TAMU said they wanted, but it wasn’t enough.

Penn State will be the -ish im going to the achievers program tomorrow

i think every single person that i know that applied to baylor got in. not so with a&m (or tu, of course)

o cool, but hey baylor isnt a bad school at all, a school doesnt have to be in the hot 100 to be good

I asked admission officer that when I can get my admission decision, and got reply just now:
Thank you for your request. Your application is currently under “Final Review.” This is the only status update available at this time.

If you have any further questions, please submit another AIS request.

Thank You,

FYI, I’m currently at step 3.

Grccx3
We got waitlisted . . . I posted this on another thread:
My son was also offered the waitlist/Blinn team etc. option. We were shocked and felt he would be a “shoe in” on the review admission because he missed automatic admission by such a small margin (both ways of auto admission).
He has a 3.89 GPA and had a 620 Math/540 Critical Reading on the SAT. His class ranking puts him at 12.4 percentile. He is involved in sports teams, PALS etc. We were shocked and hope his chances of getting in off of the waitlist are good. He accepted the BlinnTeam and Galveston options, but hope we don’t have to utilize those.
He has been told he should have chosen a different major, is that right? He chose Business-unspecified and Economics as a second choice. We just knew he would get in on the review option and now that that did not happened, I’m worried!!! Should he visit one of the perspective student centers and speak to one of the advisors there or just leave well enough alone?

whatrchances, when did your son apply to TAMU? I am very surprised he was not accepted. My only thought was he applied late.

Yeah, we were shocked too! His teachers/counselors were shocked as well . . . they looked at his essays, scores, involvement etc. One teacher asked if perhaps they forgot to look at his application. Ha! We hope not. He sent in his application on November 18th and it shows that everything was processed by November 24th. One of his teachers suggested showing up at one of the prospective student centers to ask advice on waitlist/BlinnTeam/Galveston and have them look at his profile just to see what reaction they might have. Again, we are just shocked! We honestly believed he was in since he was SO close on the automatic admission. It’s a shame that these kids work so hard, do so well and can’t get into the school they want. It wasn’t near this competitive when I was going to school . . . glad I am not in these guys shoes!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

i think in your case, it would be an admit if he applied earlier.

at this point … i am not sure that it will help to go to the PSC or whatever. i guess it might give ou a bump for demonstrated interest. it can’t hurt.

most kids i know in this position just arranged housing base on going to a&m or blinn.

blinn is not a horrible option. and blinn team is almost like being an aggie. you get all the perks.

sorry you didn’t get the answer you wanted.

whatrchances - I’m a little surprised your son didn’t get accepted. Good rank, but it could have been the 1160 M/CR, which isn’t really close to a 1300. As MikeWozoski stated, he should have applied earlier. A lot of applicants were waitlisted this year, which seems to be way more than last year. He will probably get off the waitlist, because I have a couple of friends who did with similar stats to your son.
