A Difficult and perplexing dilemma.

Oh wise elders, advise me please! Woe is me for I am but a wee freshman! Gah I need advice. I'm in honors Geometry as a freshman, but here's the story: I'm really supposed to be in Algebra 2 this year, but due to a curriculumn change at my Middle school my class had to repeat Algebra. So I went like this:
6th: Pre Algebra
7th: Pre Algebra
8th: Algebra 1

Gah I'm smart enough to be in Algebra 2 but now I'm only in Geometry because of that stupid thingy. I didn't learn anything in 7th grade! Should I stick to Geometry and end up in Calculus AB (IB Standard level 2) at my school or should I cram 2 semesters of Algebra 2 for free in one semester at school? I have a period where i do online classes, so I can choose math next semester. I'm worried I'm not going to learn Algebra 2 well enough because isn't Algebra 2 the main math on the SAT? Or will I be okay? Do colleges care if I went to IB Standard level or Higher level math? IS HIGHER LEVEL MATH GOING TO KILL MY GPA? I'm not planning on majoring in Math related stuff, but would higher level be better anyway or does in not matter? I really want to get through all the math levels, not just be a level behind where I'm supposed to be. What should I do?

Should I do it and get a tutor?

As long as you do what you're supposed to, you're fine.

Like, at our school, some people come in and do Alg 1- Precalc, others do Geom - Calc AB/BC, and others do Alg 2 Trig- Calc 3. As long as you're taking one math a year for four years, you're fine.

And you don't need to worry about SAT. That's spring Junior year, and if I'm correct, by that time you'll be in PreCalc.

Now stop worrying your little freshman brain and enjoy your weekend.

just stick with taking geometry, then algebra 2, then trig, then calc ab.

jumping ahead so you can take BC calc or another advanced math course your senior year won't really make a big difference in college admissions. Colleges would rather you get As in the sequence you are currently in than getting Bs by trying to jump ahead into Algebra 2 and maybe falling behind in the material.

And no. Algebra 2 is not the main math on the SAT. A lot of the math on the SAT is basic Algebra I stuff.

i kind of hate being in a lower math than I'm supposed to be in though! I just don't know what to do!

Are there other freshman at your school who are in Algebra II, or is everyone in geometry?

Few freshman are in Algebra 2 , but most are in H. Geometry because of what happened because it was whole class, or in Algebra 1. GAAAAH

Take it easy. Most people are in the same track that you are. It's most common (at least on here) to finish HS with Calc AB or BC. If you're super pressed, take AP Stat when you take PreCalc.

My school doesn't let you take Algebra 1 until 9th grade now, so I'd say you're doing great.

I'm in the IB program, not AP^^^ do you think I could handle this?

Most of Algebra II is repeated in Precalc anyway. So if you learn Precalc really well, you should be fine.

Algebra 2 is really just an expansion of Algebra 1, so you should be fine.

I do think you should take geometry though because you'll need those skills for Conic Sections and such.

My friend crammed 2 full semesters of algebra II honors online in 6 weeks over the summer. I say go for it.

Yeah I'm still going to finish geometry and if I take the online I'll be in IB standard level math 1 as a sophmore, the equivalent of precal. So Precalclus is just a review? Sure I won't miss anything?

^ You shouldn't miss anything. Almost the whole first semester is algebra 2. It's kinda pathetic.

At our school Honors Geometry in 9th grade is the higher track, so you're fine.

If you're really ****ed at the system, do what I did and take math courses online. When I graduate I will have passed through my entire high school's math curriculum-from Algebra 1 in freshman year through AP Stat this year. Booyah.
