Born of Ibuza parents in Nigeria, novelist Buchi Emecheta moved to England in (1962, since which she has lived in North London).
A) Same as above
B)1962 and has lived since then in North London.
C)1962, since then she has lived in North London.
D)1962 and lived since then in North London.
E)1962, and living in North London since that time.
I said D but the answer is B, can anyone explain why my answer is wrong and the given answer is correct?

I think it is because England =/= North London.

“moved to England in 1962 and lived since then in England”

"moved to England in 1962, since then (then is moving to ENGLAND) has lived in North London (NORTH LONDON =/= ENGLAND).

This is a confusing question for sure. I would have probably chosen D too.

No it is B. Since accompanies has.

I agree with SheepGetKilled.

With all its wordy “complexity” this is a simple tense problem.

You need the present perfect tense “has lived” since the reference to her living in North London is from 1962 to the present.

The part of the sentence that needs to be corrected can be recast to make this clearer:

“Novelist Buchi Emecheta has lived in North London since she moved to England in 1962.”

it is b because of the sequence

You must use the present perfect because it is a past action that carries over into the present - she hasn’t stopped living in North London - the action began in the past and is still happening in the present.
