a double major in applied math/econ and a minor in stats?

is that doable? i'm just listing out all my options. i will pretty much be done with the prereqs for the math and stats minor by next sem. assuming i get above a 3.0 in prereqs for econ, i will be declaring that too.

what do you guys think? do a lot of people do this?

Just count the courses you have left, and see if they all fit in the number of semesters you have left with the number of courses you want to take each semester (“typical” is four, but math and economics courses are not generally time consuming lab courses, so you may be able to do five or even six in some semesters without too much trouble).

how many semesters do you have left?

^ If you’re having trouble maintaining a 3.0, it might be better to work harder to get a good GPA than to have that many majors.

of course, gpa is priority. i’m just considering this…i might not do this. 5 more semesters left.

So you have 8 upper division courses each in applied math and economics, and 5 in statistics, for a total of 21. However, some may overlap like Math/Economics C103, so you may get that down to 20 (maybe fewer if you have more overlapping courses or have already taken some upper division courses). If you have no more breadth requirements to take (or they can be covered by your major courses), then 20 courses in 5 semesters is a relatively comfortable 4 courses per semester.

hm ok. but yeah, just considering this. what about a double minor in math and stats? or just math? what do people usually do to support economics?

why obsess over minors? i’d choose one of the two and double major. if you want you can major in applied math and have an application in statistics.
