So I was youtubing videos of my potential college and I came across one titled "Drag show." It showed a scantily-clad lady dancing suggestively while a bunch of students clapped and screamed. What is that???? Do other schools have it??? Is it common???? I've never even heard of it!!

It was kind of odd because the screams I heard were from girls.....

I'm trying to be open-minded here, but this thing shocked me! :)

Yes, many schools have them. I’m not sure if my U has them or not but my best friend was in one at his U- where they have very few girls (it’s a tech school) so I’m sure a large chunk of the audience was not female.

Drag show is like a beauty contest for men dressed as females. They’re not necessarily transvestites or drag queens, some just do it for the day. They’re actually quite a bit of fun :).

It shocks me, because, well, it’s not something that I’d expect to happen on a college campus. Same thing with streaking naked across a campus or through the library (from my reading this seems very common.) I’d never see anything like this on my high school’s campus. People can’t even wear tank tops.

You can go to a catholic school if you want to continue your existence in the obviously thick bubble you currently live in. Otherwise you should probably wake up and join the real world like everyone else where people actually do drink and have sex. Shocking I know.

Wow sounds like you are researching my college.

Yeah, Drag Shows are common on college campuses. My school puts one on every semester to the point that even some professors and administrators attend. A lot of people help out or perform even though most aren’t queer. It’s perfectly normal at my college.

hey romani, we definitely have them at MSU! PRISM or the brody LGBTQAA? caucus has a drag show every year (can’t remember which one) and I’m pretty sure some other campus groups hold something similar. I seem to remember even the UAB held a drag show at one point.

OP you’d be surprised at what kind of activities colleges hold! Definitely be open-minded as I’m sure quite a few types of college events would surprise you. College is a bubble from the real world - we are a lot more liberal, open-minded and things that go on in a college town probably wouldn’t be socially accepted in most other places.

rbouwens Yep. I am at Grinnell and your description seems accurate although probably outdated by the time you get here as fewer and fewer people streak.

High school is a lot more controlled than college. I don’t know what my college would do about streakers, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be expulsion.
