I am currently a freshman (2nd semester) at American University. I am going to apply for transfer to NYU and Fordham for the fall 2009 semester and, while using CommonApp, I was a bit confused by the "required" secondary school reports.

I do know that my high school is required to send in a transcript to both schools, but I did not know that I somehow had to get this secondary school report to them. Am I supposed to fill out where it says "To the Applicant" and then send two different copies to my high school via postal mail or what? Am I supposed to call them (or my guidance councilor -- who I haven't spoken with since I graduated) to let them know it's coming in the mail? This is the part that is confusing me. Also, where it says to list my "current year courses", I am assuming that it is referring to the courses I am currently taking at American and not my HS courses (since my guidance counselor is previously sending those out), right?

Also, I was wondering whether or not I could use NYU's official teacher recommendation form instead of CommonApp's generic one, even if I am using CommonApp for everything else. The reason for this is because the NYU rec form has certain questions like "How familiar are you with NYU?" that the CommonApp does not. Since I am getting my recommendation from a former NYU professor (who now teaches at AU), I feel that this would benefit me more. If not, I'll just use the CommonApp teacher recommendation form though.

i can't answer everything here, because i am not sure what you are really asking in the second paragraph

but usually schools will ask you to be consistant with your app., ie if you are using the common application, use the common app prof. rec. forms

i don't know why you think you would write your hs courses under your current year courses, perhaps i am just misunderstanding the question...but if that is indeed your concern, you are to list all courses you are enrolled in for this semester

all you have to do is have your hs send in your transcript to the schools you are applying to. at some hs's you have to call up the guidance counselor, at others they have somebody designated to handle this like one of the secretaries or something

This is what I did
1) went to the common app website
2) downloaded the high school report in .doc format (not pdf)
3) typed in info
4) scanned in my signature
5) emailed transcript request and sent completed hs report as an attachment

I did leave the high school information blank, because I figured that I'm not in high school anymore, and the form was designed for high school students.

You could always show the professor the NYU document as a guidelines of things to include in your common app lor.

Some schools ask for a high school report. I found this out by looking at the transfer requirements page on the school's website for each college.

I am surprised that colleges would accept a scanned signature on the CommonApp form. After all, anyone could just copy and paste that and I know how some colleges are with security.

Any NYU or Fordham transfers that went about this in a certain way and found no issues?
