A few CS questions!

Has anyone taken CSE 100 before? Burkhard is teaching it in the spring, which is when I plan on taking it, but I hear that Kube is the better professor for that class. Should I wait and take it with him, or should I just get it over with Burkhard?

How many times can you take CSE 190 for elective credit?

I know that everyone says CSE 131, CSE 120, and CSE 141 are probably the most challenging upper div CS classes. In your opinion, what would you say are?

Thank you very much!

If you want to get it over with (i.e. so you can take other upperdiv classes), take it with Burkhard. If you actually want to learn things, take it with Kube. I took it with Burkhard 2 years ago and didn’t get much out of that class; I wish I had waited for Kube.

I’m not sure about this one, but I think you can take it as many times as you want, as long as they’re different topics. Don’t think I’d want to take that many 190 classes though; from what I’ve heard they can be a bit disorganized…

Out of all the CSE classes I’ve taken (which includes 141, 131, and 120), 141L was the toughest – both difficult and time-consuming (all for a measly 2 units too!). 131 isn’t difficult imo, but the assignments are REALLY time-consuming. I’m sure I could’ve done better on the assignments if I’d spent more time writing/testing them throughout the quarter. I’d say 120 has kind of the balance between 141 and 131 – more difficult material-wise than 131, but not as time-consuming as 131 or 141. They’re all challenging classes, though, and you probably shouldn’t take any of those classes at the same time unless you don’t like sleep and free time. :P

Thank you so much!!!

For 141, it also depends on who teaches it. 141 with Snavely was the biggest joke ever, while 140 with Orailoglu was one of the hardest (and awesomest) classes I’ve taken.

thanks oneeyeddeacon!
