- Describe the male/gender neutral showers/showering options...specifically is it entirely open or "stalled'?
- Is eating/meal plan covered in financial aid package? (I received merit & demonstrated need scholarship for the entire cost, save for 2,200 in workstudy and 500 in subsidized loans) Or will that be a separate cost? I heard in passing something about a required 21 meal plan & that it's $11 per meal which would equal $231 per month...for 9 months = $2079?
- How prestigious is receiving the Trustee Scholarship?
- You aren't going to see any naked butts in the bathroom. There are stalls in the gender neutral bathrooms, and the showers are in their own individual stalls in the back of the dorm bathrooms.
- The dining hall is ridiculously expensive, but it's calculated into the financial aid.
- I have no idea. Most people who go here don't get merit-based aid from the college itself, though, because the college already gives out so much need-based financial aid. Getting a scholarship from Grinnell is definitely not easy.
The stalls are closed. There are many male and female bathrooms in most buildings, so you are never really in a situation where you HAVE to go to a gender neutral bathroom.
My issue wasn’t seeing other’s butts, but rather others seeing mine lol.
Thanks for the help

Everything is stalled.Except I’ve seen some weird double showers (two separate showers with curtains but in the same stall) in Loose Hall but I assume only one person goes in at a time.

It’s hard to tell. Most of the merit scholarships are called Trustee scholarships but that doesn’t mean they are the same amount. I’ve heard amounts from 16k to 22k for my year. People will sometimes talk about their merit scholarship but most people will not say the amount. It’s a bit rude to brag about it to other students so most people won’t mention it unless they’re talking about how college is wildly expensive. Most people that talk about merit scholarships are the ones that received them so it’s hard to get a good estimate. Also, there is possibly a disproportionate amount of merit scholarship students in substance-free housing. Out of my friends who I’ve talked to about this, 5/6 have trustee scholarships. We may just cluster together because of studiousness. You can find some data on merit scholarships if you look up the grinnell college common data set.
You can easily search on the Grinnell website for info about meal plan. It is required of all first years and is currently 2,923 per semester. After first year you have more choices.
Sorry to revive this but I don’t understand the bathroom system. Does stalled mean completely closed (where it’s basically a mini-room with only the toilet) or is the kind of stalls where although nobody can see you, there’s still that element of openess (doors don’t go all the way to the ground or the walls aren’t up to the ceiling or something of the sort)?
