A few important questions

I will be a senior this coming fall in high school and am looking to major in bio and go to med school. I was wondering if anyone knew any good combined BS/MD programs. Also, is it hard to get into this particular program? My current stats are:

3 B's total in all of high school so far, all in AP classes (one in BC 1st semester and two in Eng Lang), and I am aiming for straight A's this coming senior year

7 AP's taken: Calc AB (9th grade), Calc BC and Chem (10th), US Hist & Stats & Bio & Eng Lang (11th)

I plan to take three more AP's senior year: Psych, Econ, and Eng Lit

I will have four yrs of orchestra and two yrs of a sport (cross country and track)

SAT: 2120 highest in each section from different sittings: 2200

no ACT

SAT 2: Bio-740 Math IIc-750 (but i am planning to study and try for an 800)

no volunteer work so far, but I will be volunteering at a local hospital starting August 9th, and am trying to put together a volunteer tutoring program for the local middle schools

With these stats, do I have a good chance of getting in? If not, what do I need to improve?

Lastly, I've been looking a lot at the UCSD BS/MD program, but I hear it's by invite only. How do I get invited to it? And also if you guys could tell me anything you know about this particular program at UCSD, such as what they do to shorten the amount of time spent in undergrad and grad (do they require summer school? etc.) and whether it's more stressful than regular med school, and anything else.

I know that was a lot to read, but I have a lot of unanswered questions. If anyone could help out I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your time!

o yea...also sorry to add on even more questions, but how do i apply for these programs?

Where did you hear UCSD was invite only? I haven't heard that before. Doesn't UCLA also have a prog?

I'm pretty sure for UCSD you need a minimum of a 2250 SAT from one sitting... but I don't think it's invite only.
UCLA used to have a program with Riverside, but I'm not sure if it is still around.
ryfry: your stats look fine. I would definitely apply. Make sure you spend a LOT of effort into your essay. Good luck.

UCLA did have a program with riverside but I heard that it was not guaranteed and it is some strange process where they reassess your application before they admit you to med school. Basically, stay away.
Your stats are ok but whats the breakdown of your sat score? Keep in mind writing doesn't count as much as verbal and math.

In terms of suggesting a program, all BS/MD programs are good and there is no really way of picking a program unless you get into some. Just apply far and wide.

well the most competitive and popular ones are
Brown PLME- 8 years
Northwestern HPME- 7 years
USC- Bac/MD 8 years
Case Western PPSP- 8 years

my SAT scores from 3 sittings are:

Critical Reading 660
Math 790
Writing 670

Critical Reading 690
Math 760
Writing 670

Critical Reading 630
Math 660
Writing 720

and i read on some of the other forums on this site that UCSD was invite only

Here is a website that you should read, it gives general information about BA/MD programs. After reading it, hit the link on the left side to get a list of individual programs, I think it is complete:
http://www.medicalhelpnet.com/content/view/10/28/

These programs are extremely difficult to get into, just about everybody that applies to them has excellent grades and test scores. Since the program is making a 7-8 year committment, they want to be sure that you know you want to be a doctor and are willing to put in all of the time and effort that that entails. Your almost total lack of EC's indicating a passion and dedication to medicine will likely be a major problem (starting in fall of senior year is extremely late). I don't mean to discourage you, perhaps you could write convincing essays to demonstrate your interest in medicine, but you should understand the reality of the level of competition for these programs. Also recognize that many of these programs will be very expensive as tuition for the med school years is often higher and there is usually little to no merit aid while attending professional schools.

Park left out the best one! That's Rice/Baylor.

It might be a little iffy for you . . . you seem to have very good grades but your ECs are just so-so. The little amount of volunteer work will hurt you because rushing to volunteer your senior year makes it look like you're just doing it for college.

Schrizto is right.

Joining clubs jr.sr year looks like you're doing it for college....esp volunteering sr year or summer after jr year intensly.....when the past is eh
