Our congressman's office told us that usually at the end of May, they host a breakfast with the congressman for all those from his district that are Service Academy-bound. You might check with your office that gave your daughter her nomination to see if they do anything.

WV Dad, we should arrange our own WV get together and forget about the MOC! I was just reading about Peskemom's congressman's gathering and was feeling like it would be nice if ours did that.
Our Blue and Gold isn't even coming to the Senior awards ceremony to hand my son his certificate. I hear that many of them do this.
I called Congressman Mollohan's office to see if he could come and do it, but he will be voting....

wvdad- You can join any Parents Club. If there is an active club in a neighboring state you can join that one. I have known a number of people who have joined the group from a neighboring state since their meetings/activities were much closer than those conducted in their home state. Once your daughter is inducted, you may find yourself connecting with other parents from her company, sports team, etc. Hope you find a club....we have met many great people through the Parents Clubs.

Morning everyone! :D Thank the Lord for another day!

Peskemom - well you KNOW we have SO MANY appointees from our HUGE state, I'm certain it's just a logistics issue!

USNAMom - might just have to do that! :)

Navymom2b - THIS sounds like a fine idea! I guarantee we can put together a network! ;) Sierra asked her senior NJROTC instructor to present her award and he said he'd be honored to do it!

By the way, have I mentioned how much I appreciate you folks? :)

Have a GREAT Day!

WV DAD: Today a friend's husband told me he would be honored to hand out my son't certificate at the awards ceremony at school. I am so happy that someone will be there in uniform to do the honor.
I e-mailed that WV parents club guy and asked him if he had a list of all from our state. Wouldn't it be fun to meet in Flatwoods for a get together, since that is the geographic center of the state?
I am going to keep trying!

Well I'm happy that your schools allow Appointment Certificates to be awarded. My son's BGO said he would be honored to come and unfortunately our school has declined to accept his offer as there are too many awards to give out. I'm dumbfounded but not entirely surprised. Now to inform my son's BGO. It's amazing. Eight people will stand around and get their picture taken by the local paper at school when a student signs with a community college to play softball or baseball, read any sport, but a full ride to a SA isn't noteworthy.

mvljog440, that is outrageous. I'd love to email the administrator who made that decision to protest on your behalf. CCers unite!

mvljog...I wouldn't go down that easily.

Have you contacted your school's principal directly and asked him/her if they know about this decision concerning your son at the awards? There's every chance you hit some snotnosed bigot anti-military person in counselling that picked on your situation....and perhaps raising an inquiry might open the option for you.

And if they refuse, I have just enough fire in me to tell the principal that I am going to at least contact local news people and write a letter to the editor of my local newspaper that this was happening - since it is clearly a form of censorship and discrimination.
