Hey guys, I have a few questions about the common app for yale.

1). I heard that teachers have to send their teacher recommendations separately. If I was going to apply by mail, I would understand that both the student and the teacher send their material differently. But online, how does the procedure work. Do the student and the teacher both get different user id's and passwords or something? I mean if there wasn't how would universities, Yale in this respect, know whether a teacher has written the recommendation or student? The student can simply write eulogized material for himself in the teacher rec if this was allowed right? I would appreciate if someone can clarify this?

2). What's the difference between the midyear report and the secondary school report?

Thanks

If you apply online, your teachers can either submit their recommendations in paper by mail to each individual college, or they can get their own Common App IDs. How this works is you “invite” them to your Common App, and everything they submit is ultimately sent along with your application to whatever schools you choose.

The forms are nearly identical, but the secondary school report is submitted much earlier than the midyear report. (Typically before the end of December.) Then, in around February, once you have some first semester grades ready, your counselor fills out the midyear report with this new information. S/he also has the opportunity to add anything else s/he deems necessary, though s/he can just leave the form blank if nothing has changed.

This applies to all colleges, not just Yale, by the way…
