I am a junior in a private college prep school in nj.
My acumalitve GPA is 2.8 but that is due to a bad freshman year, last year my GPA was a 3.5 and the end of the year and this year for the first marking period i got a 3.0 and i hope to end up with around a 3.5 again this year. My freshman GPA was a low 2.somthing (i forget what it was).
I just took the PSAT and got a 1570 out of 2400.
My school does not rank students.
Im taking all main stream courses but I might be able to take AP Bio next year
I am an active member in about 5 school clubs.
My 3 uncles and 1 cousin all attended NYU. (none of them have any affiliation with the school right now, they just are grads)

Here are my question:
1. Is it true if you apply early addmision that you increse your chances at being accepted?
2. Does all the legacy I have at NYU increase my chances that much?
3. Do I have a good shot at getting accepted if i applyed early addmision and I was able to finish with around a 3.5 GPA this year
4. Is there anyone that you might now that has been accpted with a similiar record as mine.
5. My dad is good friends with the President of my school and with a few other high ranking people in the addministration and I will likely ask them to write my letters of recomendation, does it look good that the President of my school wrote me a letter?
6. If you think that it would been a stretch for me to get into NYU what are some schools that might be easier for me to get into, that still have the big city feel (possibly located in Boston, NY, or maby even Chicago)?
7. What is the lowest GPA that you have seen accepted to NYU that did not have a conection to the head of addmision or had a relative working at the school.
8. What type of resume would be stronge enough to get someone into NYU? (obvioulsy all AP and perfect SAT's would be the best, but from looking at my info a the top of the post, what are some realalistic goals I could try to reach that would give me a really good chance at getting in.)

If anyone can answer any of these questions it would really help me alot.

P.S. - sorry about any typos im typing this pretty fast, lol

This is without a doubt true. The % accepted is higher;

They'll help, maybe on the level of a good extracurricular

Greater but you need higher SAT's in my honest opinion. I still suggest you apply.

It'll be considered.

Check the ED Thread

Boston College

This question is just silly. GPA is not the only factor in determining admission.

Balanced student with everything in addition to the hardest warkload.

NYU has Early Decision, not Early Admission. The acceptance rate is slightly higher for E.D. than for R.D. but in some years, the applicant pool is stronger during E.D. so the advantage is not as large as it is at some colleges.

Legacy only counts if it's immediate family.

There's no way anyone here can tell you your actual chances. A 3.5 cumulative u/w gpa if you've taken the hardest curriculum at your school, along with good essays and good recs, and high test scores will put you in the ballpark. You really need to improve those test scores if you want a chance.

I'm sure there may be some accepted students with a similar record. Middle 50% SAT is usually around 1310 to 1420 (old scores) so there are always going to be some lower than that.

The only letters of rec that NYU wants is one from a teacher and one from your guidance counsellor. They will not consider any others.

Fordham, Pace.

Agree, silly question.

You need to take the most rigorous classes your school offers and you need to do well. You also need to do much better on the SATs. That's the bulk of it. If you have some longterm e/cs that you've been involved in, that's good. Write some interesting essays, find a teacher who knows you well and will write a good rec, and hope for the best.

And make sure you have a good list of other schools. NYU is selective and lots of good students are rejected every year.

What would be a decent SAT score that would put me in good standing as far as my SAT goes. Also i think i am going to take the ACT b/c i heard they are a bit easier to get a higher score on. Is that true? and if so what is a good score for that?
