A few questions about Smith school, Honors, and Banneker

So is the Smith school really bad at recruiting ? Also is it true it's harder to get into UMD when you state you're applying to the Smith School ? I mean does UMD put any emphasis into the major selected by the student. If I get into as an Engineering Major can I apply for Double Major into Smith (How easy is the process)

What are the average stats of kids with Banneker scholarships ?

Is the Honors Program really good (Academically) ?

Anyone......?

re: recruiting.... see other threads on this topic, they aren't too far back.
re: banneker.... no idea, if that info is not readily available on the website it's probably unknown
re: honors.... much better than the university as a whole; as far as academics go, the program is what you make of it. if you choose to take a lot of honors seminars and h-version classes, then yes, your academics will be at a higher level. but there's also the option of just taking a few here and there. i love honors seminars, i like taking classes on interesting topics with people who actually enjoy participating.

I got Banneker key scholarship and invited for Honors and Gemstone and HHMI research, 3.9/4.62 over 2250 SAt good recommendation/hundreds of hours of community service... unfortunately I will be declining the offer and my parents are going nuts!!!!!!

whyivy- i was looking to see what school you got accepted to and congrats on Princeton. i would definetely give up banneker/key for Princeton.

So does the major play any role in the admissions process ? As I've previously asked is it hard to transfer to Smith School (once you're in) to double major. I've read the previous threads, so one just have to make an effort to get recruited ?

I'd take B/K over any ivy anytime.

I was offered th BK, but I might go to Chicago. Undecided as of now. Stat-wise, 2310, 4.00, 11/510. Some sports captainship, other cool jazz. Nothing outstanding really. Any advice on what I should do?

Recruitment is good for accounting (but what school isnt nowadays lol). Pretty much terrible for everything else. The BBs only recruit for back office operations (death wish in finance).

If you have ANY desire to work in front office finance or consulting, take the target school over Maryland. If not, then Maryland would be fine.
