are the freshman calc classes aimed at those who have NEVER seen calc in their life or is it basically well you know…assuming you already took calc…like would the teacher be explaining how to take a derivative to 5x or would it be assumed that everyone already knows

has anyone that you know transfered from mcs to tepper…was it hard?

If you've only taken up to Trig you can still take 21-120 (though some start at below that in 106 or something).

They go over everything like how to find derivatives and go over all the steps to do the problems. If you have good study habits or are reasonably intelligent then you can get the hang of it quite easily. Math courses are not considered hard at CMU (sometimes hard teachers) but the courses generally considered hard are like Physics, Concepts of Math, and other conceptual type classes.

how about biology and chem?

ive actually already taken a year of calc AB so i guess i shouldnt have TOO much of a problem...hopefully

Bio depends.. I've heard about its hardness and easiness from a wide variety of students. Chem is considered pretty easy (HSS kids usually take it for an easy science). I don't know about different chem classes but if you ace all your quizzes you can skip the final and get an A based on your quizzes. Also, if you screw up a quiz your final will JUST be on that portion of material the quiz you screwed up on covered.

any feedback on lit/history type classes?

Pretty easy also. I only took intro to history which was by far the EZIEST class I've ever had (besides seminar and even interp). 5 easy quizzes are 20% of your grade and 2 papers are another 20%. Class participation is like another easy 20% and the final is 20%. It is just really easy from what I remember.
