A few questions from a transfer acceptee

I have a couple of questions about Yale. I just got my acceptance email this morning and I'm really stoked. I'm a junior transfer and I was wondering if anyone here knows what the transfer experience is like? Are transfer students well integrated? What sort of degree requirements are there? Is Yale stingy in granting transfer credit? I assume some of this info is in the packet that has yet to come in the mail.

Thanks! Look forward to seeing you all next year

Stupid question but does junior transfer mean that you're a junior right now so you're gonna do senior year at Yale or does it mean that you're a sophomore this year and you're gonna do junior-senior year at Yale?

I'm going to be a junior next year at Yale... I'm a sophomore right now. I believe they require you to do two years at least so you can't apply as an upcoming senior.

Magi, the last generation of transfer students was very well integrated into Yale. We are also still in touch and good friends with one another! We were really hoping to make your experience that much better, though - we miss out on freshman counseling and orientation stuff, and there should be a way to address that within the transfer program. But besides that, you'll find Yalies are an extremely friendly and social bunch, and absolutely nobody will think twice about you being a transfer asides from being a little more curious about you.

They will explain the degree requirements once you get here, as transfers have it a little differently; we actually get off easier by not having to fulfill every requirement in strict order (but otherwise, the req:s themselves are the same).

Transfer credits are VERY generous. I still ended up a year back, but probably because Dean Cutler thought I would enjoy having some more time here (she outright suggested to another of us that he could discount some courses and be a sophomore instead). Don't worry about that part a bit.

Awesome! Yeah, I figured getting integrated wouldn't be bad at all. My only real concern was the transfer credit, as my parents' only condition for transferring is that I graduated on time (a few summer classes would be fine if necessary) since they can't really afford a 5th year.

congrats to MagiTF^_^
Could you share your background if you don't mind?thanx a lot~~~

yea....magiTF....what were ur stats?

If you have specific questions about transferring then I'd be happy to answer them via PM... however I don't really see the utility in posting my stats. There were plenty of people with better stats that didn't get in. I had a compelling reason to want to attend, and I convinced them of it. Good luck to both of you with your future admissions.
