How far is it to the town of Easton from the center of the campus ? Is it walkable?

How safe is the campus and the town?

Do you need a car?

Where is the nearest airport?

City Centre is maybe a half-mile from the center of campus. My daughter and her friends regularly walk to the Saturday farmer’s market and have taken evening walks to restaurants downtown (they don’t linger too late, however, and always travel in packs).

College Hill, where Lafayette is located, is quite safe. Downtown Easton is fine except late at night, although the over 21 crowd (and I’m sure a few who aren’t) drive down to the bars and clubs. The west ward and area south of City Centre aren’t places students ever need to go and they shouldn’t unless they are there on a service project.

Daughter does not have a car, but she says it is handy to know people who do for occasional shopping trips every couple of weeks. Otherwise, she never lacks for things to do on campus, although she likes to get into Manhattan a couple times per semester, either as part of a class or via regular bus service to the Port Authority.

The nearest airport is about 12 miles west of Easton (Lehigh Valley International Airport). Service is somewhat limited, however: Florida, Chicago, Philly. The nearest major airport is Newark Liberty.

The heart of downtown (center square) is 3rd and Northampton. Third st north of Rt 22 (at the bottom of the hill) is mostly owned by the college and is in the process of becoming sort of an “arts campus”. There are bookstores/coffee shops and shops along 3rd and really nice restaurants near center square.

It’s an easy walk to get to the bus station downtown (except for the steep hill the campus is located on top of). There are many daily busses to Newark Airport (about 1 hour 20 mins), NYC, and Philadelphia. The college runs shuttles to Lehigh Valley Airport at the beginning and end of breaks, but it’s probably just as easy to take a bus to Newark Airport and fly from there.
