Hi, I need a little help. When they say this:
"A completed signed copy of your parents' 2008 federal income tax return, including all required Schedules and all Partnership or Corporate returns, is required if your parents filed or will file a tax return for 2008."

...I find it hard to believe that they want the entire thing, like all 35 pages of it. But is that what they're looking for? Or is it just the "Signed 2008 IRS Form 1040 (Pages 1 & 2)" that is the first thing listed on the cover sheet?

Second, I didn't file a tax return...since I don't work or do anything worth filing for. So do I need to fill out the Non-tax Filer Statement? If I were to submit that, they also need "supporting documentation". How do I document the fact that I don't work?

Last, they want the Business Supplement, but I already submitted that a month ago, cause they sent an email saying a couple of my schools required it. Should I just include it again, or is it redundant to do so?

I believe they do want everything. I sent in everything (1099, W-2, 1040, schedules...and whatever else that's needed).

If you don't work, just sign the non-tax filer statement and send it in. I don't think you have to send in any things to document the fact that you don't work...because there is nothing to document. I believe when they say they want documents, that only applies to those who work but do not have to file taxes. I don't work either and I just sent in that statement.

Send them EVERYTHING they are asking for. If they are asking for all of your schedules, include them. If they are asking for the business supplement, I would include that again. Just send it all.

The information on the FAFSA and Profile that is supposed to come FROM the tax return should match. If it doesn't perhaps you should amend the FAFSA and Profile to reflect the ACCURATE information from the tax returns.

You are certainly able to complete both forms using estimates, but you are also supposed to update both with the accurate information from your 2008 tax return.

Why doesn't the information match the information from your tax returns?

I filled out the FAFSA and Profile using estimated 2008 numbers and had to correct both of them with 2008 numbers from the tax form after I had filed. Correcting the FAFSA was no problem--just went on line to do it and FAFSA takes care of sending the new report to the universities.

However, correcting the Profile was not as easy. You don't deal with College Board with Profile corrections once you've submitted the original Profile info. You have to print out the Profile application, manually change the numbers on the page and send the amended Profile to every college you sent the first one to.

A real pain...but I'm with thumper on this one--the numbers should match.

Make sure you send the ENTIRE Tax Return even if it is 120 pages. Indulge them. It's like stripping naked and having a cavity search performed on you -- that is, if you want financial aid.
