a few questions post acceptances...

okay, so i've been accepted to deerfield but waitlisted at exeter. while im thrilled that neither schools rejected me and that i have a chance to attend this incredible school, i still am unsure about a few things.

i am a freshman this year, so i will be entering next fall as a sophomore. how hard will it be to catch up? while my school is one of the best in the state, it is still a public school. Will my grades (at least for the first term) be drastically lower than someone who attended since the beginning?

how welcoming are the kids? i'm scared that I'll be alone and won't be able to make friends.

do boarding schools (deerfield and exeter, in my case) certainly have better college placcement than a public school in wisconsin? while i may get a better education in deerfield, wisconsin is less competitve and it IS in the midwest, giving me an advantage in colleges, right? oh, Im looking into harvard, yale, stanford, and a few other places.

how big is the exeter waitlist? how likely is it that i'll get off of it? i'm was an applicant for tenth grade, and i am a girl.

i guess im not even sure if going to a boarding school is a righ thting for me or not...

if you are unsure of whether or not you wan to go to BS go to the revisit days
also the chances of you getting off the waitlist are very slim. you should be happy with your deerfield acceptance it is a great school

Dear Joe,

I am cutting and pasting my response to another student on the forum.

We are in Chicago and had many of the same issues that you stated above. I believe that the chance for a midwest kid to do bs is sooooooo wonderful. And remember it isnt prison, if at the end of the year you don’t like it don’t return. If you have gone through the process and gotten in to DA and maybe Exeter, you owe it to yourself to give it a try.

I understand that you are not sure, but as a parent, look at all the great rec’s, great job you did on interviews, essays, etc…you have made the cut. I firmly believe that bs’ do a great job in knowing which kids will do well, I trust them.

Here is the cut and pasted part:

Are you going to revisit day?

Was either school your real 1st choice?

I asked every student tour guide we we visited schools why/when did you make your final decision…90% said on revisit day.

My daughter had a sure 1st choice, though she didnt share it with me until after decisions came in…in remarking about her choice she said she felt like she 'fit".

Only you know and make the decision of where you fit.

But understand, her “fit” wasn’t the least expensive for me…2 other school are offering full ride, we will revisit but I believe her, thus our decision is made.

I will repeat…what is the right FIT for you:-_

Good luck

Feel free to PM me if you have more you want to talk about :-)
