I'm from California, and I know very little of NYU. I'm also applying for transfer in 09

1st question: what is the avg admit GPA for Econ at NYU?

2nd question: is there different job prospects in CAS or STERN for Econ (i-banking is the key here)

3rd question: do they hate westies?

4th question: Since I'm a transfer student and all my units currently articulate to the UC system in California would it also for NYU? Also a community college student.

It seems this year the admissions process is intense, hopefully next year it lets up a little bit.

i'm not sure there is a way to find out that information (assuming you're referring to GPAs of admitted transfer students)...but maybe i don't understand your question.

overall, not really...most important thing is you keep your GPA high. for instance, if you don't have a 3.8, you're probably not going to get an interview at goldman sachs. kids with degrees in art history get good internships. they wanna see good grades and a good resume over all else.

i doubt they'll hold it against you.

it would be best to actually call NYU to clear that up...

From what I've heard, there is a difference. Goldman Sachs definitely recruits more at Stern, for example... there's an event, it seems, every week involving Goldman Sachs going to speak to some Stern club. Same with the other big i-banks. It's definitely possible to go into i-banking from CAS, but much harder.

shrug My impression from being a Sternie for a year... anyone from CAS econ want to chip in?

To be fair, virtually all the Stern events are open to the whole university - people outside Stern just don't hear about them that much. It's not actually harder to get an ib job from CAS; Stern students generally just get a head start on it because they're more prepped...

agreeing with youkosiren...stern events are almost always open to anyone at NYU, and a most places don't hire with a prereq of having a finance major.
