A few questions regarding the essay

I have been pondering different topics for the upcoming Common App's essays, and I do believe that I have a perfect idea to use.

Problem is, I don't know how far I'm taking it. I'm thinking of doing #5...

1) Is a story from when I was 10 years old acceptable, or is that really too far ago in my past to be considered an accurate representation of my character?

2) Is it acceptable to sprinkle some humor in? It'd be a pretty accurate representation of my character, which is what (I believe) the whole purpose of the essays is.

1) I think it’s okay if you can actually relate it to your life today in a way that doesn’t sound forced. My first Common App essay centered around something that happened when I was nine, and a lot of people said it didn’t tell them anything about who I am today.

2) If you’re naturally funny, your writing will probably come across as droll/humorous without you having to try. If you think of something funny, write it down. Otherwise, don’t.

Halcyonheather is right on point. For Common App, I am writing about an event that happened when I was 13 before high school and it had a major impact on me today. Make sure to illustrate that if you choose the story from when you were ten.

Whatever your personality is, let it shine through! Don’t force the humor, of course, but show who you are via humor if it represents you well.
